Thoughts on Tinnitus and electronically augmented hearing. With hearing aids at 78 my hearing is the best that I can remember. The ringing is ubiquitous. The aids improve the signal to noise ratio and add an amazing amount. Mine boot to a volume level of 8. I use 5-6 mostly. They pass Spinal Tap’s 11 to 13. A Danish company GN Group. Costco’s audiology department is free.

Polio visited our house in 1949 in Cleveland when I was 18 months old. My mother was partially paralyzed. Grandparents cared for me and I returned at 3. The disease was not eradicated in 1970. The island of Grenada had an outbreak in 1972. My last vaccination was on St. Lucia heading South towards Grenada.
Hip done, walking in a couple hours.
Hip replacement tomorrow am 🤞

Counting ant species and see that I have a new one indoors after 48 years. Extremely small 1.5mm(?) and focused around a floor drain’s moisture. Outdoor ants exceed 10mm. There is an entomologist in family who specializes in native bees as well as honey bees.

A private fundraiser concert last night for novaslc.org was great fun. Four hand piano pieces including one by Ravel. An opera singer doing classics, show tunes & a Tom Lehrer song.
@odd
Binge watching anything is not possible for me anymore. It’s hard to sit still for an hour, 12 would probably be fatal.
@alice Thought of you when I sent a map of Amsterdam someone who lived there. A floating map of Amsterdam made of padlocks.

"You make music for the reasons of love I think.
You love music, you love to perform it, you love to listen to it. But sometimes there's a catharsis in music that's somewhat incidental, for you and for the audience. As the audience might be changed by the experience, there's a kind of transmutation for you as wel!."

It was an interesting & cursed time. Nixon’s presidency was definitely an inflection point. We’d been protesting in DC in May ‘70. Some classmates went to war & others on to graduate schools. The rest of us went to work
“To recoup their existing and announced investments, AI companies will have to bring in $2 trillion, more than the combined revenue of Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Apple, Nvidia and Meta.
“And they have to bring in that $2 trillion before all those GPUs burn out…which is, again, about 2–3 years.
“Or sometimes just 54 days.”
@ai6yr Odd tools from my dad. Beryllium alloy slip & crescent style tool for natural gas, no sparks.
Berylco pliers & wrench.
@ai6yr
Aranet 30F60 radiation meter.
@ai6yr Tried Aranet on different brands of shrimp. No activity, none came from Indonesia.
“AI isn’t magic; it’s a pyramid scheme of human labor,” said Adio Dinika, a researcher at the Distributed AI Research Institute based in Bremen, Germany.

This is excellent. 👌🏼
“Open source, the thing that drives the world, the thing Harvard says has an economic value of $8.8 trillion.
Most of it is one person.
And […] not one of those single person projects have the proper amount of resources they need. If you want to talk about possible risks to your supply chain, a single maintainer that’s grossly underpaid and overworked.”
Yuuup. Baffling how so many companies depend on open source software without funding it, ever.
@muz4now Mentioned Pauline Oliveros’s Deep Listening before. Your synth post reminded me that she was a pioneer in electronic music.
