There’s a lot of reasons to be opposed to USA war in Iran, but my conviction that any action we take will only leave the world in a worse place is at the top of my list. This administration is laughably incompetent compared to the one that started the US invasion in Iraq in 2003, and we saw how that turned out.

But if you prefer something that is functionally identical, but harder to read, try this:

I noticed a while ago that it appears my Mastodon instance defederated Threads.
Which fine.
But today, I noticed that it looks like that resulted in my account silently unfollowing everyone on threads. Is that how the Mastodon software works? So even if I move to another instance, the list of people I once followed is lost forever?
I see Google Fiber now offers a fiber plan labeled as "8 gigabits per second".
What in the world would someone need that much bandwidth for? I get that having super-fast internet speeds means things like cloud storage is more useful, reducing the need for local storage, but what kind of use case would have 8 Gbps be significantly better than their lowest speed, 1 Gbps?
Their example is a 4k movie would take 2.4 minutes at 1 Gbps, which seems more than adequate to me.
The 6-month rumor update is Python job postings are 6:1 India to USA, and SAS are 5:1 India to USA.
However, my source indicates "new" listings have a higher India to USA ratio — greater than 10:1 for both. How could this be? A possible explanation are evergreen job postings, postings with no actual opening to fill, but instead collect resumes for potential future openings. Actual job postings churn when the vacancy fills while evergreen linger for months.

Well this sucks. Just got the positive line on an at home Covid-19 test. I’m regretting not masking up at the zoo last Friday — even though most of it was outdoors, there was obviously enough exposure for me to catch it. #CovidIsNotOver
This is my third harvest of raspberries for the year — 476 g. I’d estimate about 650 g in prior harvests, so 1.1 kg total (about 2 pounds 7 ounces).
My garden is 100% organic. The raspberry blooms fed a lot of pollinators 4 weeks ago including this giant bumblebee 🐝 in the second shot. Unfortunately no pesticide also means bugs eat and spoil some of my crop. In my opinion, it’s worth it to help the pollinators and not poison myself.
I've heard a rumor today that at a large USA company, current job listings that include the keyword "Python" have a ratio for India to USA at over 5:1. For "SAS", the ratio is much higher, at over 20:1. Ratios just 1 to 2 years ago were closer to 1:1.

No joke, for several decades, I eagerly anticipated the day when computers, molecular modeling, and AI would design candidate chemical compounds for diseases that were too rare to receive enough funding for traditional drug research.
Instead, LLMBros want to use AI to put people out of work — people who are already producing good solutions.
One of the lessons of conversation that I'm still working to get better at is how to let the person know I'm interested in what they are saying and invite them to add more instead of responding to the gap with a related story of my own.
I think part of it is my natural Midwestern tendency to think of asking direct questions as nosey. My instinct is to let them know I'm engaged in this topic which gives them space to share more if they want and stop where they are comfortable.
