What's nice about this web IDE is that the Grace interpreter runs fully locally. That's one really nice thing about Rust, it can be very easy to port projects to the web by compiling to WebAssembly and doing a bit of work connecting the Rust and JavaScript code.
Today I have just released a project that I have been working on for much of this year: an interpreter for the Grace programming language written in Rust. I have been working on this project as part of a full-year course in my software engineering degree. I have released the project to Codeberg: https://codeberg.org/rustydev/grace
In addition to the implementation of the Grace programming language that I made, I also created a few fun example programs written in Grace, including a Pong game, a Snake game and a drawing application. You can run these Grace programs inside a web browser using the simple web IDE that I created: https://rustydev.codeberg.page/grace/
Here's a screenshot of this web IDE:
Here's the popup

Just started working on this project. I already am having a lot of fun using CSS to design the popup.
Same is true for climate change with the idea of individuals having a "carbon footprint".
The same victim blaming done by the capitalist class is also done with AI. They shove AI anti-features down our throats in all their products, which naturally leads people towards using them.
This of course is only a moderate solution, far from the desired goal of the complete abolition of capitalism. But this moderate solution is still easier for us to get in the short term.
An often mentioned counterargument is that online advertising is needed to fund the online services we use freely. On an individual level, this is sort of true. Of course you can get funding from other sources like donations, which is what we often do here on this part of the internet, but asking for donations can only get so far.
But on a collective level, the money that the capitalist class has and uses for advertising could instead be taken and just given to content creators and others who need the funding. Maybe we should design a system where every company pays a small but proportional amount of their income or wealth towards this, so we can completely remove the societal harm of advertising. In other words, taxes.
Often times when policy against advertising is proposed, it's often very weak. It's usually just weak regulation, like "no tobacco ads" or "no gambling ads". This isn't enough, the entire industry needs to fucking go. We need to start demanding this. It's absolutely insane that this capitalist system of psychological torture is so normalised in our lives that the most we can dream for are restrictions in advertising certain types of products.
Advertising is also harmful to the environment, because of consumerism. The capitalist class loves to blame consumerism on the working class, but one of the many causes of consumerism is the advertising that they bombard onto us. When the capitalist class is incentivised to maximise products, they aim to maximise sales, which increases production and causes unnecessary destruction to the environment.
On an individual level, advertising is detrimental to our mental health. This is because the incentive from advertisers is to make people feel like they're inadequate, that they need to buy their latest and greatest product. Seeing a single ad isn't too harmful, but in our capitalist world we are constantly bombarded with ads, so these small negative effects build up.
This is especially bad given that the advertising industry has billions of dollars on their side, so they have access to the world's smartest psychologists to carefully design ads to be as manipulative as possible.
If all of a sudden the advertising industry completely disappeared, the world would only be a better place. The negative effects of ads go well beyond them just being annoying. Often in privacy spaces, the privacy violating aspects of advertising are focused on the most, and other societal harms are ignored.
It sort of feels like websites have a moral obligation to do this, as advertising is a drain on society that harms users and the wider world. Users being pushed to see fewer ads in their life would only help them.
After thinking about this, if websites started doing this then this could significantly boost the adoption of ad blockers. If you're reading this, you probably already are using an ad blocker as you're using Mastodon, but the average computer user doesn't use an ad blocker. After a quick search I found that only 30 - 40% of internet users use them.
I miss the days when what it meant to be lazy as a programmer was copy-pasting code from stackoverflow. At least that code was hand-written.
Might as well share this game that I have been working on for a while. For the past two years I have been working on Spaceships, a completely free/libre 2D space-themed shooter game. The core idea of this game is that you are a spaceship and your goal is to destroy other spaceships by shooting them with bullets that you fire.
Spaceships has two main game modes, singleplayer and multiplayer. Singleplayer consists of five levels as part of a story mode where you need to destroy all bot players without losing all your lives. Multiplayer is similar but more open-ended with a wide variety of game modes, including survival and capture-the-flag.
The website for this game is at https://spaceships.me and the repository is hosted on Codeberg.
Found this sticker in Wellington comparing our right-wing government to Hitler and encouraging them to follow their leader.
