Of course, a lot of this isn’t really about the children. It’s about banning anonymity online. That in turn quells dissent, keeping the powerful in power.

I’m sure there are plenty of well meaning do-gooders in parliament pushing this ban. But it’s also naive to take it at face value.

We’re also aging out of a dynamic where parents are completely clueless about what their kids can be exposed to online.

It’s conceivable that the majority of parents of teens *today* didn’t grow up with the internet. But 10-15 years time? The generations who grew up online will be the parents.

I’d feel more sympathetic to the social media ban if it was for under 10s/13s.

I started using the internet when I was around 13yo. I made friends, made *stuff* and learnt so much that I’ve carried forward into my career.

While not perfect, it was a really positive thing to have in my adolescence.

Something I’m missing from my old Masto client is the ability to tap and hold on full screen media to get a save/copy/share dialogue. Photos mainly.

Also, is there a system share sheet extension in the works? Would make life easier for sharing links and content into Indigo from other apps.

✅ Got Married

Collaborating with my other half on our wedding playlist.

She’s filled it with Little Mix, Taylor Swift and other cheesy pop.

I’ve filled it with Bring Me The Horizon, While She Sleeps and rock covers of pop songs.

They all fundamentally share the same song structure, at least. 😅

Also, bittersweetly, I wasn’t actually able to be on the booth myself. Instead, I was with Canon demoing a multicam setup that resembled what me and my team use for big music festivals and other events.

This was my second year on their stand, and each time it’s evoked my days at the Apple Store. My favourite part of that job was demoing tech products to people and trying to inspire them with what they can do with them. It was a lot of fun using those muscles again!

The stand received a lot of compliments, with some visitors going so far as to say it was the best looking one there. So I’ll take that as a win!

That said, it cost us more to be there than I’m spending on my (small, low budget) wedding next month. So for the sake of my future marriage we’d better get some business off the back of it. 🤣

The only problem is I’m a terrible sales person. Marketing I can do, but actual deal-closing sales is my kryptonite. 😅

Really proud of how me and my team approached exhibiting at a big media technology event in London this week.

Since our kit manufacturers and retailers were also there, we couldn’t just turn up with equipment. It would’ve looked like we made/sold it.

So instead we themed our stand as a detective agency asking “what killed the live stream?” to try and find other production companies and freelancers to collaborate with on technical projects that need our specialist live streaming expertise.

Had the fun experience of using Keynote today for the first time since I/the app upgraded to Tahoe.

Despite no longer having a visible toolbar chrome it still *acts* like it has a toolbar chrome. Clicking and dragging the top of the window moves the window. Clicking and dragging the background gives me a select tool.

There is nothing in the UI to indicate that I'll get a different interaction by clicking and dragging my cursor in these different places.

WHY DOES LIQUID GLASS SUCK SO MUCH?

A number of clients, colleagues and friends have been asking me about AI recently.

Truthfully, I think it's because they're being told they should be using it, but they're finding the results... underwhelming.

But there are some genuinely useful technologies that have (rightly or wrongly) been lumped into the category of AI.

The thing that shocks me most when I go to continental Europe is how prominent cigarettes are.

It feels like the UK has really pushed to curb cigarettes - albeit by substituting cigarettes with vapes. But vapes are far better (speaking as a non smoker) than cigarettes. Cigarettes stink!

My (soon to be) parents-in-law have had their UK tourist visas rejected for our wedding. 😞

I’m going to say this every week for the foreseeable future* but I am SO happy to have Scrubs back.

Ok, this explains all of the weirdness from last week RE discontinuing plugins and the support folks being kinda useless about it.

Today, we’re back at it. We’re producing another Mars Day event for ESERO-UK & STEM Learning for over 100,000 school children, with the goal of inspiring them towards STEM and space careers. (Of course, what we’re doing very much falls within that “T”!)

Last year I was asked to Tech Manage a video shoot for RAYE at Abbey Road Studios in London.

This involved setting up the video village for the directors, producers, and other crew so that they could see the different camera feeds all at once, so they could coordinate the production.

As amusing as this story is, I’m confident enough with the way things work here in the UK to say that the customer has no leg to stand on. If they spent an hour playing games with the AI, asking it questions unrelated to their transaction, in order to manipulate it into providing a fictitious coupon code, then I don’t think that’ll fly in court. It’s as if someone socially engineered an intern or work experience student for the same outcome.
