What a great, insightful answer! So to sum up what helps to get your search and hashtag results more populated and useful on a relatively small (but important!) server like nrc.social:
1. Wait for history to build up from the start date of the server
2. Users on your server could follow more accounts on other servers
3. Mastodon admin (i.e. Marloes) could define important hashtags (and instances) and add these via the admin GUI by using a relay. So you could for example add https://relay.fedi.buzz/tag/EastAsia and https://relay.fedi.buzz/instance/social.overheid.nl. For howto: https://relay.fedi.buzz/.
4.Tech server admin (i.e. Procolix) could enable full-text search by installing Elasticsearch.

Museorakennus Kirsti Vanhassa Raumassa on mitä parhain kuvausmiljöö, jos ei sisälämpötilaa oteta huomioon. Oiskohan jotain 10 astetta. Paikka on siis avoinna yleisölle vain kesäisin.

Neitsyys meni. Pääsin elämäni ensimmäistä kertaa testaamaan tällaista avaruusajan vessanpönttöä, jossa on kaukosäädin erillisille toiminnoille.

Whenever people promote the Fediverse they usually start with the philosophy of the technical side. And then go on to define it by what it is not.

That's fine. And for many that's how they came here. But is that really why most of us stay here?

For me the main feature of the Fediverse is simply that it offers me a lot of friendly, interesting and curious people that I enjoy interacting with.

Pääsyavainten idea on, että (käytännössä) käyttäjä ei hallitse omia avaimiaan vaan ne ovat lukossa jonkin laitteen tai palvelun sisällä. (Poikkeuksia saattaa olla, mutta en ole viitsinyt selvittää.) Tämän vuoksi on erittäin ongelmallista, jos sellainen on ainoa tapa kirjautua sisään johonkin.

Toissijaisena kirjautumistapana pääsyavain on varmasti kätevä, mutta en silti suosittele käyttämään tavoitteiltaan kyseenalaisen tekniikan käyttämistä.

I hope many things will change for the better during development for Mastodon v5. Another UX quirk: when you click the "New post" button in the top left, the compose box appears in the bottom right.

For users with tunnel vision, like my wife, it makes you feel like nothing happened. But even for fully sighted users, it forces you to travel a long distance with the mouse.

The UX needs a lot of work.

"Hi. We have a FreeBSD server. It's been working perfectly for years, but it hasn't been updated since then. We asked AI to update it, but now it won't boot anymore. It didn't even make a backup before starting. The AI keeps trying things, everything is down, and we've already spent over €500 in tokens. Can you help us?"

"Sure. €500, plus the time it'll take me to try to fix it. Assuming it can still be fixed and nothing important has been deleted."

"That much?"

Some silence.

"Well, I hope AI takes your job away!" And he hung up.

Believing that autopilot automatically makes you an invulnerable professional pilot will ruin far more people than job losses will.

I don't know if AI will take my job away, but it's already cost them €500 and, probably, their server.

Mementomori.social has been around for four years and will not shut down. I even have it written in my will that we will keep standing in our corner of the internet. One can hope.

I have been hosting services continuously since 1998 and have not abandoned even my oldest websites. We have a 50-member non-profit association @ry, a three-member sysadmin team, and the hosting company @upcloud backing us up. Our server Ansible playbooks are open-source and we are fully transparent in case we ever need to migrate. We have already scaled and moved twice without having to call it quits.
