@cadey :( why are people on the internet jerks

science question:

how pixelated does an AI generated photo have to be for people to think it was real?

When we design for disabilities, we make things better for everyone. This is called the Curb-Cut Effect. The term was coined by disability students and activists in the 70s, who added curb cuts to the Berkeley sidewalks to make access easier for those in wheelchairs. They discovered those also helped people with strollers, using trolleys for deliveries, etc.

@benpate @bonfire any plans to publish keys on @soatok's federated key transparency protocol?

I think somebody on mastodon said something to the effect of "with all this VC money, you could build sound, formally verified software, without vulnerabilities - but instead you waste it on the non-determinism machine"

and I felt that in my bones.

systemd isn't all terrible.

it does some weird stuff, same as the old systems.

Hi, I’m looking for my next project/job. I mainly work as Accessibility Specialist and Front-end Developer.

I would prefer a remote position; this helps me manage my energy levels which means more productivity ✨.

I love working on products or platforms. Collaborating with other disciplines is where I thrive; be it consulting or creating (accessible) products. Connecting different concepts is a treat.

cc @aphyr do you have a colleague who does horizontal LB consistency theory?

are there good writeups on race conditions / time-of-check-time-of-use bugs for scenarios with a central consistent backend, proxies (with threads and variables per http request but no cache), and browsers?

e.g. the DB isn't trying to be distributed but the workload is, especially if horizontally load balanced.

what are the defenses against that? is a sticky loadbalancer good enough?

I'm a sucker for a nice RBAC/privacy/security/auditing GUI.

what's your favorite and why?

frequently, open source projects are do-ocracies ( https://communityrule.info/modules/do-ocracy/ )

where the people who /can/ code, decide what features get coded.

if you have e.g., a blind user who can't/won't code, and a bunch of able bodied developers who don't care about the feature, it doesn't get done.

people's rebuttals may be:
- "fork it, it's my project I don't care"
- "well ADA / A11Y requires this"
- "but feature creep"
- "I'm a designer and I know better"

OSS doesn't mean it solves user problems

"Microsoft clearly does consider AI to be a priority. In fact, it's one of three that Nadella cites: security, quality, and AI transformation.

In terms of security and quality, Microsoft's record speaks for itself. That leaves AI transformation."

huh. wild. why isn't mastodon's /api/v2/instance data (specifically .contact.account.acct) part of .well-known/nodeinfo (https://github.com/jhass/nodeinfo/blob/main/schemas/2.2/schema.json) #mastodondev #activitypub #diaspora
