For the first time I've seen a job offer that requires "including the months (not just years) when referring to your education and work experience" and if it wasn't otherwise a nice position, I would be tempted to write something along the lines of "hey, I've been in that job for 8 years, does it really matter that I started in August?". #jobs #getfedihired
Just got a copy of the union magazine, and they clearly mention a "learning crisis" that I also see in my own workplace: declining attendance, a flipped balance where students spend more time in "side jobs", and the impact of AI meaning that students really learn less … but somehow the magazine "buries the lede" by only making the title about "empty lecture halls". My kids' school has laptops with ChromeOS on them, an OS with the unfortunate design choice that accounts can be removed from the login screen without the need for any privileges. You can guess one thing that bullies love to do.
The beauty of AI-generated student work is that it is sometimes recognisable without even having to read anything. One just needs to focus their eye elsewhere and enjoy the repetitive patterns of sub-chapters which are all made of 5 paragraphs of similar lengths...

WTF MS Office??? I have Powerpoint* files which looked perfectly fine last week and all of a sudden, spaces have disappeared from headings! I've had to change the font theme for it to work again, but apparently I cannot use Work Sans SemiBold anymore!

This is exactly what I'm feeling about my work as a lecturer: grief. It feels to me that the ease with which students can produce answers is robbing them of their curiosity, or their engagement, of their very will to achieve any form of mastery. The very things that make learning feel rewarding.

The fact that Aptos became the default Microslop Office font a few months after the release of ChatGPT means that I cannot read text typeset in the former without thinking it has been generated by the latter. It just gives me the vibes.
