This is wild - somebody did a deep dive into the real stories behind this famous XKCD:

What was the thingy again that prevents your scroll actions from leaking out of a container? I even forget if it was CSS or JavaScript.
What might be useful is
x.querySelectorAll('dialog:has(&)')
where & refers back to element x.
The cost of AI
The tech giants are creating a system with the appeal of a 19th-century factory, complete with oppressed and estranged workers, without delivering the sole benefit: cheaper stuff. After each conversation about AI, ask what the true cost of the tokens would be. Nobody knows, but raising awareness is a good idea.

And I went shopping between the blogging about AI and the fixing of image galleries on conference sites ...
and forgot the most important thing: a new Android.
Ah well. If it works in Chrome/Mac and Safari/iOS I think it'll work on Chrome/Android and Samsung/Android.

I am simultaneously discussing the current state of the @perfnow venue, explaining the boys about the coronations of Charlemagne and Napoleon, and solving a Safari/iOS bug on the conference sites.
I'm not sure when any of it will be done.
Oh, and I almost forgot to publish the short blog entry I wrote yesterday.
Reminder: tickets get more expensive onThursday. There are only nine tickets in the middle bracket left.

Books aren't dead
About twenty boxes of books were thrown onto the street from my apartment building. That made me sad, but I’m not going read 98% of them. But they were taken anyway, and quickly. Books aren’t dead. They’re just sleeping.
Today Igalia turns 25.
In September 2001, ten engineers from the University of A Coruña started a company with no outside investors, no managers, and no intention of ever appointing any.
There are now close to 200 of us, spread across the world. The arrangement has not changed: no managers, no shareholders, and everything we build left where anyone can use it.
Here is to the next twenty-five.

If an AI reads all articles on your site, how long does that process take? Does it make more than one HTTP request for the HTML page itself (discounting CSS, JS, images, and such)?
I always assumed the AI would download the text (or the full HTML) and put it somewhere in memory to read from it as required, but is that true?
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Friends, it's that time of the year: Once again, I'm asking you to help me create another amazing HTMHell Advent Calendar by writing about HTML.
The CFP is open until October 3!
Spent the entire day writing. It'll take some more time, but eventually I'll have a nice two-parter to publish.
So my Firefox 155 on one of my computers suddenly refuses to load all kinds of files, among which all style sheets, citing CORS errors and whatnot. On my other computer it works fine.
Turning off my usual combo of AdBlock + Ghostery solves the issue (both must be disabled for most sites) ...
but can anyone please tell me what the effing eff is going on? I don't even understand enough to formulate a search query. Some technical terms would be greatly appreciated.
OK, what the actual HELL is going on with FIREFOX 155.0.1?
The one on my Mac Mini point-blank refuses to load style sheets and shows related error messages. The one on my Air works absolutely fine.
Yes, same version.
