I overheard someone mention that they were glad that I was taking the time to help a man at work. I asked why, and I found out that everyone has been sending people to me, for the reason that I never yell or raise my voice or express irritation with people.

Around the office I’m known as the guy you send the dumbest people to, when they’ve done something unforgivably stupid, because I don’t make them feel bad.

Is that something to put on my resume?

Preparing a laptop to give to a friend to introduce them to Linux. They want to run a custom software package they’re used to at work, but they only know Linux as the OS running cryptic commands from Windows PuTTY.

My hope is that they will enjoy using Linux. I’ve been daily driving Linux for 20 years, so I forgot what new users like. What distro should I pick? For compatibility with their work program it must be Debian-based.

:emacs: is so nice for learning a new codebase. A source code file is in one window and my notes.org is in the other.

As I summarize what I learned, I can switch to the code, M-x org-store-link, switch back to my notes, C-c C-l, and bam! Then I have a hyperlink to the specific line I was writing about.
