@mcc @aeva fuck with Lu Bu and he'll give you a Lu Bu Bu.

The Horrors

unreal engine can't hurt you, it's not real

@aud

Yay!

So: crimes!

```
import os
import sys
a = os.close(sys.stdout.fileno())
b = open("message.txt", "w") # I originally had it as os.open but plain open works too!
print("mwahahaha")
```

then cat messages.txt

The fun bit about the `b = open` part is that *any* "next file descriptor open" will take up stdout's file descriptor -- so you can also do weird stuff like throw the output over the network.

"Searching for programming language concepts sucks now, you have to use an LLM, checkmate AI Opponents" is a really bizarre take to me.

Like, documentation exists, books exist, Google sucks now and the LLM is unpredictably wrong so like, uh, I am not having this problem?

How to get into nature, by Rosemary Mosco.

URGENT! PLEASE BOOST FOR ME. Fedi friends, I'm unexpectedly stuck. I've just had the horrible realisation that my bank is overdrawn because they didn't take money for bills out until later than normal😢As a disabled person under the poverty line, this not only now leaves me stuck to pay my utility bill, but also means the bank will charge me a fee for being overdrawn. As you can imagine, this is an extremely precarious and stressful position for me. If you could help me cover the overdraft and upcoming fees as well as the upcoming utilities bill due tomorrow, it would be so very much appreciated and I'd be very grateful(I'm okay for food at the moment). My goal to cover the utility bill, overdraft and fees amd get back to zero is $231.21. Thank you so much💖

I did it - they're all looking at the camera. I'll never be able to take another picture like this in my life

#CatsOfMastodon

Kids today will never believe this, but it used to be an important user interface design consideration that buttons for controlling stuff (like a media player, or paging through a series of photos) not cover up the stuff that the buttons control.

Imagine: videos, where the play and pause buttons were not on covering up the playing video content for any amount of time. “See next photo” buttons that didn’t overlap any part of the current photo you are looking at.

We can have it all again some day, I believe.

An unreasonable opinion of mine:

Users of text editing software need fewer formatting options. Even in the world of markdown based editors, people abuse markup "for effect" that makes their messages worse.

(This micro rant bright to you by the discord user putting all of their posts in the subscript markup and making it hard to read.)

"login form does not work with password manager" should he considered a security vulnerability

I feel this in my bones.

My failure to produce/deliver contains multitudes, but this is the core of the issue. The audience and (more importantly) exchange for any type of content have all but collapsed. And the “AI” discourse is either science, ethics yelling fights, or markdown astrology. I have no interest in participating in any of those fields.

gosh who could have predicted that precisely this would happen

Render Engine now has a website!

https://render-engine.org/

hey discord i don't care about paying money for stupid bio gimmicks or being annoying and inaccessible

but i would actually justify nitro if you would just add the ability to prevent people from sending friend requests if they haven't posted in the same channel as you within a certain timeframe

Reminder: we do not accept pull requests written with LLMs! We will close these pull requests without review.

Please be respectful of our team’s limited time and resources. We’d much rather be working on bug fixes and cool new features than sorting out if you actually wrote the code you’re submitting

New Blog: Programming Isn't Special

Artists understand that AI is bad for art. Why don’t programmers understand that we are artists?

https://blog.glyph.im/2026/10/programming-isnt-special.html

Coding agents reduce software development to a simple matter of:

* specifying requirements
* verifying correctness and quality
* maintaining and operating software you didn't write

As we all know, those have always been the easiest, most well-understood parts of the craft, so everything is fine!

So youtube algorithm fed me a video that has me exploring a new skirmish wargame and it's an absolute delight.

But I have been sending rules snippets to my private chat server and my wife just came into the room to ask me if I designed this game in my sleep.

So if that doesn't tell you how targeted I've been, I'm not sure what would.

you CAN be a game developer.
don't get discouraged.
the dream is still alive. and so are you.
