There's still time to book time with apple engineers tomorrow at: https://developer.apple.com/wwdc25/sessions-and-labs/one-on-one-labs

It means once again, every minority member in any group must be perfect all the time, because if they’re not they instantly get branded a DEI hire.

Meanwhile I’ve known plenty of incredibly incompetent white bros, who no one says were hired because they’re white.

In my experience incompetence knows no race, gender, or orientation boundaries. But also in my experience the straight white idiots are much more likely to be Peter-principled into management, while the minority idiots are stuck.

Also, it remains annoying that the game phrase people settled on was “DEI”, it made it super easy to weaponise it as “reverse racism”.

Someone should have come up with a phrase that meant “you don’t get to hire white dudes over others just because they’re white dudes”. Especially given all the evidence shows that everyone rates minorities more harshly in interviews - so you’re hiring *less competent* white bros, over more competent people, because they’re white.

If you’re still working at Tesla, SpaceX, X, or Meta in a month I’ll consider that as an admission that you’re a Nazi sympathizer at best.

You’ve had years of evidence, and ignored it, but if you think I’ll let you claim “ambiguity” about saluting Hitler during the inauguration you’re a fucking Nazi, and can go fuck yourself.

If you think “I didn’t vote because they were equally bad”, you supported this outcome, and you’re a fucking Nazi. Why? Because you said loudly “a Nazi president is fine”

So all those groups that the GOP hates that supported the GOP so that they'd be safe (groups like log cabin republicans, but literally every other bigoted minority - anti-trans women will be on the block soon as well) are going to discover that when the GOP said they believe you're subhuman, they mean it, and you're a moron for thinking they'd stop at just the groups you hate.

Ignoring kids/candidates from these schools because they're low quality is BS: over the years I've worked with some truly oblivious interns. It turns out that just like being "smart" is not determined by race/background, neither is being "not smart".

Seriously, if there was a legitimate concern about the material covered by the local public schools, it would not be hard to discuss what skills we were looking for in graduates.

If the concern is low "real world" skills, but kids from those schools are functionally excluded from consideration for intern programs, then that lack of "real world" skill is not the fault of these kids.

That act alone means that before even starting recruitment, before a single recruiter goes anywhere, before a single CV is collected, you've already introduced bias against minorities and the less wealthy.

This is without even considering recruitment programs that involve sending employees back to their own schools, which is a sure fire way to get more similar employees, and provide a non-skill based advantage to those students.

It was really disappointing to see Kling complaining about the "DEI" policy at apple, without any reflection as to why that policy might be necessary.

I recall asking folk at why we did not send recruiters to any of the local public universities or community colleges, and the response was "well we've found candidates historically to be better from <standard list of prestigious schools>", cool so we just completely discard all candidates from larger schools with more diverse backgrounds.

You can see the bigotry at play, whenever a woman or minority employee makes a mistake, or turns out to not be competent, the bigots _always_ blame DEI. Always.

Yet when it's a white dude that is just as incompetent there's never any "why did we choose this white dude over the other candidates?"

If a member of a victim group makes a mistake: see we were right about that group!

White dude makes a mistake: could happen to anyone

Another white dude makes the same mistake: could happen to anyone

Seriously people, a person in a minority group, or women (who are not a minority, and just inexplicably and for totally non-sexism-related-reasons massively underrepresented in tech), who get a job because of "DEI", are still not on a level playing field.

"DEI" programs did not give them a leg up over white dudes, "DEI" programs simply reduced the degree to which they have to be better than the non-minority candidates.

"DEI" programs were never "hire less qualified people because they mean category X", they were required because without direct and objective measurements preventing it, the entire tech company hiring process discriminates against everyone.

The mythical "less qualified minority or woman that stole a white man's job" BS is purely "white men are so used to being given priority over anyone else that even slightly leveling the playing field felt like discrimination".

Historically all tech companies prioritized candidates based on:

* Did you go to the same (white prioritizing) school?
* Did you go to a "prestigious" (read: white prioritizing) school
* Did you work for a company with the same rules?

Then they got to claim they don't discriminate against candidates based on race or anything, because the "wrong" race, gender, etc doesn't get past your "not racist/sexist" filter.

"DEI" programs say "you can't prefer candidates just because they went to the same school as you", "you can't prefer candidates because they go to church with you", "you can't prefer candidates because they're the same religion as you".

Also, let's consider the Facebook "we're getting rid of our DEI program".

Here's the thing: Every "DEI" program in every US company is actually just a lie: "DEI" programs are phrased the way they are because if they were honest they would open themselves to lawsuits, because those "DEI" programs would be more correctly labeled "Stop preferring white male candidates over everyone else, just because they're white men".

Oh, and not sponsored at all, but this is a playology scented ball. Waffles *loves* these, over and beyond any other ball, they're also incredibly robust (he manages to destroy most squeakers immediately, but not these, and then the balls themselves, but these last months): https://playologypets.com/collections/all-dog

Bed time? or ball time? #dogsofmastodon

Anyone worked out how to get KSP1 to use a native version of mono? ( @Migueldeicaza you're 100% responsible for all of mono so I expect full knowledge :D)

The harm these fuckers did, will take *decades* of constant effort to fix, but they see anything other than “it’s fixed” in a two year cycle as not being worth supporting, which means (drums) even when there’s a democrat president the longest there’s any ability at all to pass legislation is maybe two years, and generally it requires only one “moderate” dem to prevent everything. rather than going out and electing more “liberals” these fuckers sulk at home, and throw out any chance of change.

The other super obnoxious BS to deal with: all the people who supported trumps first election going out to support Biden when they saw the results of their selfishness actually impacting them, then going “oh he didn’t do everything I wanted so I’m not going to go out and vote next time”: well you fuckers you appointed a Supreme Court that literally overrules anything the GOP doesn’t want.
