I don't want to be all "told you so" but this is a sobering look at that "iconic" photograph of the Black woman surrounded by Nazis on a train.

Everyone lost their minds over how evocative the image was and how it summed up whatever it summed up; very few people considered the experience of the woman we made into an involuntary symbol of our chin-stroking self-satisfaction.

Tell me how long you've been in #webdev without telling me how long you've been in webdev.

I remember a colleague writing a regex to detect URLs, and I had to point out that it should include the new-fangled HTTPS as well as HTTP URLs.

Poll: say you have a table of data sorted in ascending order:

Alpha
Bravo
Charlie
… etc

Which icon should appear next to the heading to show that it has been sorted that way?

Bit of #guitar help, Fediverse?

I have this weird thing which calls itself a "Guitarlele". It's a very-short-string nylon string acoustic which is like a regular guitar with a capo on the 5th fret, i.e. to play an E shape down at the nut is to play an A chord.

My question is, what strings can I put on it, because they desperately need replacing as you can probably see.

I don't even know how to ask this question, but is there something like a decision-path web framework, such that users can get presented with:

Where is the customer located?

a) USA
b) Canada

then click on Canada and see e.g.

Is the customer over 50?

a) yes
b) no

then go to a third page etc.

I"m assuming you could put all the decisions and possible responses and paths into JSON or XML then have the pages and buttons automagically appear.

Does that exist?

I've injected a little CSS so that at least it displays like this:

I am a huge fan of Mastodon and I'm very happy that quote posts are here now.

… but …

I am HORRIFIED that it's in a little drop menu where the Boost button is.

Every time I go to Boost I get a nasty shock. That should be one click. Quoting a post should be one click, in a whole other button. There's lots of room. And if it's no longer the Boost button but the Boost and Quote menu button, it shouldn't have the Boost icon any more.

I can't explain why this annoys me so much but it really does. Does anyone else feel the same?

I might create a Chrome extension.

@ingrid How do I submit items for Perfect Sentences? I'm obviously missing something but I can't find a form to do so.

Here's a rare positive story—Australia is on track to eliminate cervical cancer. Eliminate it altogether.

I keep reading the same thing in article after article about #charliekirk — "all of us were forced to see the horrible video on #SocialMedia whether we wanted to or not".

Not to be too smug about it but no, not all of us, right? Because I'm on #Mastodon I didn't get auto-playing videos of Kirk's shooting brought to me by an algorithm which decided it was "popular".

Hi, #Today I decided to try to #getfedihired — I've got many years of experience with web development, programming and production (#HTML, #CSS, #Javascript), I can make myself useful in anything on the open-source side of back end, i.e. the #Perl, #Python, #PHP, #MySQL, #Linux kind of area.

I live in #Sydney Australia and would be happy to work in-office, remote or hybrid.

Let me know of any opportunities, or pass this on to anyone else who might know of something? Thanks.

This is the kind of #funny post I particularly love because it crosses some huge cultural distance and I get to congratulate myself for understanding both sides of the #joke.

Is there a name for this?
