📝 Alternatives to US tech platforms #Development #Webdev #Tech #Politics #Socialmedia

With the US rapidly devolving into a failed state with the endorsement (both full-throated and tepid) of many tech leaders, I’d urge you to reconsider your use of any tech platforms and tools offered by companies based here. Donating to a fascist’s inauguration isn’t a shrewd business decision, it’s a demonstration that you’re...

“We know why the double standard, have you considered infact, China bad, yet, tech bro oligarchy, good, infact?”

📝 Zapping the web #Tech

Apple added a feature to Safari that lets you hide distracting items. It’s not an adblocker and it was never framed as one.

My new startup :

2 guys one Github

Wowsie just realisted that i can actually just use fractal.build as a design tool
So workflow is figma/sketch/my notebook is the sketching tool - then into fractal styleguide & with tailwind its just writing the thingties
No more battleing figmas limitation & real testing on the phone
... i should do a blogpost

Maybe move it to 11ty to instant publishing ... @snugug reminds me of a talk we had in London 10 years ago about design in the browser

#webdesign #webdevelopment

Looking again at sketch -
Not that it hate on figma but ... I want a webdesign tool that just do designs + getting off the subscription hell feels kinda nice

Gonna start though with a few months of subscription to test if i like it

@mortendk My colleague @joelholmberg wrote this high level overview recently: https://axesslab.com/european-accessibility-act-eaa-what-you-need-to-know/

And yes, the gist is WCAG 2.1 AA plus a few additional things in the EN 301549 European norm.

Diving into the EU laws around #a11y to make sure were not breaking any laws - yes i do know that we should be default make everything 11ty but sometimes you need a little bit of leverage for an argument

Anyone knows what the state is atm ?

so far i only found
https://www.w3.org/TR/epub-a11y-eaa-mapping/

which tells me its wsag2.1 AA a product should support
#webdev #a11y #accessibility #web

What happend to alle the styleguides ? Was that just a trend for a while
In still building things First in fractal after the shift From patternlab - but a look in the github repo looks like no real updates for years ?

Not that i Experience it needs updates though - fractaljs ftw

After the XZ backdoor incident Lasse Collin shows surprisingly good humor in the commits and commit messages that fix the mess that "Jia Tan" has caused.

Update to the authors of XZ:
"Special author: Jia Tan was a co-maintainer in 2022-2024. He and the team behind him inserted a backdoor (CVE-2024-3094) into XZ Utils 5.6.0 and 5.6.1 releases. He suddenly disappeared when this was discovered."

On why the backdoor was removed:
"- On machines that see lots bots poking at the SSH port, the backdoor noticeably increased CPU load, resulting in degraded user experience and thus overwhelmingly negative user feedback. - The maintainer who added the backdoor has disappeared. - Backdoors are bad for security. "
