Posting from Jolla Phone 2026, using native Tooter ß app.

It feels a lot like *BSD on a laptop to me: I can mostly get by, but I wouldn't be able to use this as my only mobile device right now.

I've installed microG and friends, Bitwarden and banking app works fine.

The plan is to run a littleFedi instance, once the dust settles.

1) First time running NetBSD on anything, and I only started using *BSD a year ago. Do I need to compile go from source?

2) My ISP needs to provide me with a modem that can run in bridge mode with a static IP. It seems they can only do one, or the other, but not both. Using LTE modem as backup.

3) littleFedi is not yet available (not complaining!)

Arg!

First cover done. In natural indoor light, you can just about notice the green and red power LEDs.

I'll keep an eye on temperature and fan usage. Usually the Pi and ThinkCentre servers are cool and quiet. The fabric seems 'open' enough for air to flow through.

Next project: The Cover-up

Homelab is sitting on the two lower shelves of an IKEA BESTÅ TV bench.

I'm going to make two wooden frames and cover them with black fabric, like a speaker front.

First iteration is just to balance/press them in place, next iteration will use some sort of magnetic or velcro fixture.

Home Assistant Companion app unable to connect via internal URL

I'm using GrapheneOS 2026062300 (Android 17), Home Assistant OS (Core 2026.6.4, Operating System 18.0) and Companion app 2026.6.5-minimal (via F-Droid)

The app has Network, but not Location permission. I haven't changed anything regarding app permissions.

"utm_source=mastodon")
3) aldrig deltager i debat

I've got a ThinkPad X1 Carbon 5th, currently running OpenSUSE Tumbleweed. I want to try *BSD on this laptop.

Network controller is reported as "Intel Corporation Wireless 8265 / 8275 (rev 88)" under Linux.

FreeBSD installs OK, but wireless speed is not impressive, and my USB-C dock doesn't seem to be recognized.

I can live with using a wifi-dongle when out and about, but missing dock connectivity is not something I look forward to. I don't care about the built-in camera.

Is there anything else I should worry about? Sound, Bluetooth, sleep mode, battery life?

First steps in the BSD world!

1) OpenBSD on VPS (Amsterdam)
2) FreeBSD on Raspberry Pi 4 (home)

I'm running a Wireguard connection between the two.

Next step is setting up relayd on the VPS to point at services on the Raspberry Pi server.
