Amazingly simple to set up thanks to docker compose and good documentation!
Set up a runner as well, which was just as straightforward.
Everything just works.

Today I had to have a look at a site I created in the early ‘00s (yes, amazingly still live, and largely unchanged too, except I added some mobile design on top at some stage).
It's amazing how much CSS has moved on since: On that site I had used display: inline-block; float: left; to get a multi-column layout. What a pain that was: calculating exactly the width. hoping you don't end up with different heights. nightmare …
It did end up with different heights on one of the elements due to reason, and so was all wonky.
Display flex, custom properties, calc - The kids do have it good today!
When I was young, I learned, and was taught, how to make the computer to work efficiently and correctly, in my computer science degree.
Now it is the opposite. Do brute-force search using giant farms of computers, using a huge amount of energy and water, and get results that are not guaranteed to be correct any more.
And I was discussing with a colleague this morning that my 2001 laptop ran faster than my current top-range computer for everyday tasks. Of course, it had a much worse CPU and much less ram. And of course the software for things we still do *now* was much faster *then*.
I still have that laptop from that time running Ubuntu 4.10 from 2004 in my personal museum of computers. You would be amazed how responsive the system is for everything we do every day with a computer. I recently tested it with my son, because he was curious to see how things were then.
So we are using more powerful hardware for getting a poorer experience.
The new computers are much better for some things, such as running Agda. But, for everything else I happen to do, they were just as fast, because people programmed them in a more efficient way (they had to - there was no other way).
Aging into our senior years in a future where the generation filling our prescriptions, paving our roads & funding our pensions can't read a f*cking email without asking #ChatGPT v38 to summarize & workflow it for them is going to be a real delight. \s 😑

So many folks, rightly so, have zeroed in on this sentence with serious angst:
"Non-technical teams are now shipping production code..."
I think this is the inevitable outcome of the past 30 years. First cloud, then SaaS, now vibe coding has moved IT ownership to the masses.
I don't think this is great for security, governance, or oversight, but it's AMAZING for CEOs and boards who just want to go fast and break things and "empower their people."
I'm not belittling "the masses." But they aren't technologists, by and large.
And what is being demanded of them by misguided leaders is to run some massively complex SaaS/Cloud/Coding tool that "Looks Easy Enough" but all of the devil is in the details that only hard core technologist would know or care about.
I believe this is why we have seen so many breaches based on misconfigurations and poor secret management and poor API/Token/Oauth management. The people making those design decisions aren't equipped with the skills to understand the consequences of their design choices.
They are marketing people, or sales people, or HR people, or whatever. They have other important skills, but we have forced IT onto them because leadership massively underestimates the complexity, risk, and specialized knowledge required to run it safely.
"I mean, how hard can a surgery robot be? You just push buttons right? Get the front desk guy to do it!"
This is inevitable, but stupid. Good luck to us all.

I'm running Proxmox Backup Server using Backblaze B2 (an S3 compatible object storage service) for storing backups. This does work fine, but my scheduled verification (I verify once a week) regularly fails on some backups due to what appears to be transient issues with the B2 API.

Probably controversial view on here, but hear me out:
We (experienced devs) always gleefully share stories of AI deleting production databases or otherwise totally screwing up. We like to point out that this is one of many reasons why you shouldn’t use AI.
But … people have been deleting production databases since production databases existed. They’ve also otherwise totally screwed up.
Any failure mechanism of AI also exists with humans. Humans are notoriously proficient at making mistakes.
And let’s face it, the sort of orgs that have their production databases deleted by AI aren’t the ones who’d have a team of competent experts setting up fail safe mechanisms and redundant backup if it wasn’t for AI. They’d hire the guy with 1 YOE and make him lone developer / CTO.
So what is the difference? Is it simply that you can fire the dev? That seems a bit cynical…

Current rough stats for blocking servers with out-of-date software versions using this script: ca. 3490 servers silenced, ca. 3180 servers suspended.
This greatly reduces the amount of spam I have to deal with. I'm also not keen to federate with servers that have big gaping security holes that will go unpatched for years.
