My mother-in-law died last night. She was born in 1941 near Manchester—an act of defiance and hope by her Jewish parents. They moved to Israel during her childhood but left disillusioned a few years later. In her early 20s she visited America and got arrested as part of the civil rights movement. She met my father-in-law as part of the International Socialist Movement.

When she was 40, she moved with her family to Australia so she could write her PhD and become an academic—a profession she brought my father into to be her research partner. Later in life she became a passionate environmentalist—standing outside supermarkets with petitions for them to put doors on the fridges to reduce power waste. And this leaves out so much of what she did because my wife doesn’t have all the words.

So in her honour—punch a Nazi, move across the world for an opportunity, get that PhD later in life be loud with your neurodivergence—make the world accommodate it. Do something to make the world fairer and better.

Oh it would be really nice if we could critique LLMs/genAI without going into "doing things the easy way is lazy" kinda arguments. There are lots of easy ways of doing things where:
- nobody is harmed by the easy way
- no skills are lost
- people get the option of doing the thing who couldn't otherwise for various reasons

(I'm as anti-genAI as any of you, I think, but we don't need to dip into ableism to critique it please)
