Thinking about how Quote Posts work here. If I quote post something to add context and then a year later the server has shutdown that I had QPed from then my context I was referring to is no longer pointing to anything and wouldn't make sense. Sometimes that's fine but sometimes its an important thing that's happening in the world that I am adding context to in my own historical record so having that history depend on an external server staying up really hinders memory.
I forgot that https://octodon.social shutdown. @cwebber moved from there to social.coop in 2024. which means that all the amazing threads about the history of the fediverse / what is activitypub etc from 2017 to 2024 lead by or substantially containing Christine are now either gone or broken or only exist in weird archival forms on centralized web archives. I know that everything is temporary but this fact makes me sad.

This thread from @alice about the new Firefox redesign shows how much Mozilla does not give a single fuck. It's time to choose another browser project to put hopes and dreams in cause I don't think Firefox is going to dig themselves out of the hole they are borrowing into any time soon.
Anyone have some spare parts for Google Pixel 8 Pro or 6a? I have one of each that both have unusable smashed screens and would like to get them back working. Would be happy with a totally cracked screen if it is still functioning (even partially) otherwise. Maybe you bricked one installing plan9 or fried the battery using it as server or something...
