One of the last coal-powered sheep.
Most sheep are all electric now.

(It’s risen to 5C now)

Heading north from Melb to Sydney today. We left around 6am. It’s now almost 7am and the temp outside has just dropped to 3C. WTAF???? It’s November!!!! (And that’s apparently cold enough that the car notified us!)

*Waves book aggressively*
How is this so hard to understand! 😜😂

I’m really enjoying this trip but I will be glad to get home and have tea-with-milk. Black is ok, but I do prefer it with milk

(Yes, I could order non dairy, but it’s me who has to deal with the aftermath while travelling if they make a mistake :) )

Exactly. Re. the first point, that's what Iceland did after the 2008 crash to become the only nation in the world to actively recover & not just ask non-rich people to hunker down.

Re. the second one, since we collectively just decided that this exists, we can also just decide how it should work. The weirdest thing about money is that it's a community construct which has been seized by the least community-minded people in the world & turned on the rest of us & we just let them.

@cczona Also, most ways we traditionally measure the economy (or what we dish out money to people for) is wealth extraction. Did we make the rich people richer? That's the Number in Number Go Up! We did it, Patrick! We saved the city!

There are many other things we could look at that are actually worth our time. Are people less stressed, better able to make their basic needs, able to buy "frivolous" things like hobby supplies or movie tickets? Are fewer people in extreme poverty?

The pressure to define productivity by wealth extractive measures is coming from the rich, and it is - by definition - self-centered.

In fact, I saw this in my Immich library this morning while looking for something else. I saved it because I wanted to occasionally read it and remind myself that success doesn't need to be forever. Success can be simply enjoying yourself in the moment before moving on to the next thing.

By that metric, Mastodon is a success to me.

Grrr… we were browsing a bookshop yesterday (as you do ;)) and i noticed they have re-released paperback Discworld in the original covers (hurray!) i have been collecting the hardbacks, as long term non degradable copies, but only want the original covers, so i was hoping they had released those too, as there are a few i have had trouble getting second hand. But, no :( (booo! :( )

Waiting (for a while yet) for Voyager to come out!

Did you know the British hedgehog has been on the endangered species red list since 2020?
Did you know the state paid farmers over years to remove a substantial amount of hedgerows?
Did you know their next best choice of place to rest over winter is your winter bedding area among the vegetation and leaves.

If I can ask a small favour of anyone this winter:
PLEASE dont close off that tiny gap under your fence, and please leave a corner of your bedding that can wait until February March to be carefully tidied or turned over.
Be wary of garden forks into winter compost piles. Hedgehogs are your friends. Invite them in. Dont use slug pellets, just make an e environment that hogs are drawn to. They'll do the work for free.

**single entry boxes that garden centres profit from are a potential danger from predators for hogs becausethey cant escape claws and snouts. They're also neither damp resistant or insulated inside.**

This is what @pluralistic wanted: a petition to the Canadian Parliament to repeal the anti-circumvention law. If you are eligible you really should sign this.

This timeline is getting increasingly weird. How is progress going on the time machine repairs? I’d like to move on!

Love it :)

Isn't it beautiful?

For those in academia doing humanities Internet Stuff in Perth, Australia, or willing to move here: I'm taking a break from teaching next year so that I can consider how best to spend the next couple of decades, and also because I am **burnt out**

So I don't know if this would sway any election deniers out there, but if there are any election deniers out there, what I'd want to say to them is this:

If last night's Democratic wins _were_ caused by fraud, then the conspiracy to commit election fraud would have had be so wide-spread and involve so very many people coordinating across so very many jurisdictions -- that the conspiracy itself would itself be a plausible demonstration of the will of the people.

You got it!

Try Neowalk. Www.neo-walk.com

Custom cane. Very flashy or more toned down if you want. You choose the cane, the handle, the bottom etc.

Customer service is incredible. Had a cane break because it fell after over a year. Got a brand new one for free when I told them about it.

I have three and I will never buy from anywhere else.

I recommend choosing to have the handle wrapped by them for comfort. They add a very nice gellpad that makes a huge difference for comfort.

Feel free to DM for any questions.

At Brunetti Classico in Mooney Ponds with @david . Oh my ! So many choices! :)
