I am having a lot of fun with control resonant. Debating trying the Alan Wake games whenever I finish this.

We instead watched Ravenous, which was on one of the library streaming services. 1999 really is the year of movies.

Welp, I was going to try out mubi and watch Camp Miasma, but something must be fucked up somewhere on their backend because I cannot actually sign up for a subscription. ::sigh::

I successfully did my usual batch cooking (lotsa protein), and I threw together an actual meal to use up some odds and ends. I will now spend the rest of the day doing absolutely nothing.

Control Resonant has dramatically more fun combat than Control, although I do kinda miss the writing quality. That said, it's much harder to have a tight story like that with an entire open world game you have to fill in, and it is having some good story beats on the main quest.

It really seems like nobody is ok right now, we all have our own maladaptive coping strategies, and the intersections of these issues is going very poorly.

I kind of wish that, after big in-person work travel events, they'd do a survey like "did you get sick? how many days were you sick? did you take PTO to recover?" and then figure those health impact and work-loss metrics into the cost of the next event.

Our house came with a fire pit we never use. Maybe I should go old school: write things down on a piece of paper and then throw it on the fire.

I'm showing real maturity in middle age by deleting a lot more things before posting them (and occasionally deleting them shortly after posting). One day, perhaps, I will be able to avoid writing the things in the first place.

I was promised fall, and instead it is 80 degrees outside. 🫠

Will I like Alan Wake if I enjoyed Control? My fave bits of control were the vibes and storytelling. I’m ambivalent about the combat as long as there are accessibility settings to make it easy. Notably, I do not enjoy visual novels, so I do need the exploration to get me to the story or I get bored.

therapist: Just meeting your basic survival needs isn't enough in these trying times. You also have to find sources of joy.
me: I'm watching my favorite dropout episodes over and over again to ensure I get some regular laughter.
therapist: I do not know what that is, but I'm glad it's helping.

Finished the main game of Control and was delighted by the final needle drop, which I hadn't heard in a long time. Seriously considering trying out the sequel, which sounds like it's pretty different, but also probably my jam.

Happy "Charles Darwin is poorly today" Day to those who celebrate

165 years ago today (1 Oct 1861), Charles Darwin was having a rough one

I'm so happy it's apple season. Gonna eat all the honeycrisps.

I have a lot of weird texture/flavor issues with fruit that are a much bigger issue when things are out of season (presumably because they're being brought in from much farther away), so I'm very excited when my faves are in season locally.

Happy spooky season! 👻

I have had a not great few days of on call (thankfully during work hours). Time to smash things in Control.
