No such thing as a free lunch, but even if you have a team size of one I recommend starting a decision log — not just to capture decisions you've made but as a repository of decisions you need to make.

There's something deeply calming about dependency files that contain more comments than dependencies. (We're not there yet, but we're getting there!)

I don't begrudge Slack for making this change, but I think this is why loss-leader free plans are evil for many businesses: when the music stops, and you need to cut costs, you end up consigning millions of people's thoughts and words and ideas to ashes.

in a rare repudiation of the meme, migrating my personal site to a new static site generator actually _did_ cause me to start writing more. making it trivial to just add a new markdown file and hit `git push` removed most of my mental blockers for shortform, microbloggy writing.
