It was a very good night for the DSA (Democratic Socialists of America) and their allies in NYC yesterday and not just for congress - they did really well in NY State elections too.

Mayor Mamdani endorsed Brad Lander, Claire Valdez and Darializa Avila Chevalier for Congress. The first two won decisively, the third is leading and may win (not all votes are counted quite yet). Edit: Chevalier has won too.
This is nice, unless you're an establishment Dem. It means in future elections his endorsement will have even more weight and it won't be coming your way.
“To replace labor, AI doesn’t need to actually deliver comparable outputs. It only needs to fulfill a certain executive fantasy of “what work looks like”. That’s much easier than, say, achieving AGI (however defined).”

Unless I am mistaken, @blogdiva has just completed orbit number 0x3c, so celebrations may commence!
Happy birthday!

It does make more sense to ask your cat instead of AI. Better feedback and you get to pet a cat.
Look, a lot of tech nerds have stated their misgivings about the awful things misnamed as "AI" and their impacts, but here's a video from a man best known for reviewing hockey games and he's livid about Google pushing AI aggressively.
The normies are getting angry.
Good.

You'd think after a long weekend I might feel rested.

I'm really hoping USA BlueSky posters start using a cross-posting tool to a Fediverse instance soon and let others know about it. Especially anyone organizing for left(ish) candidates in primaries and general elections in November.
Things are not looking good over there right now and there needs to be a backup plan.
I really feel bad for Canadians who aren't rich. Too many right wing premiers and now a right wing party is fully in control at the federal level.

Don't visit ProPublica today, staff are on strike.
Don't cross the picket line.
Does anyone have good tips for getting archived messages from Postorius/Hyperkitty/Mailman via an API?
The docs aren't helping me at all, I keep going round in circles. Maybe I keep missing the relevant page.
I don't want to set the thing up, I want to be able to fetch posts from an existing setup, and ideally serve them up elsewhere, i.e. via @astro collections.
Thank you in advance!

As someone who was born in another country, I just wanted to say that while the USA has often very deservedly been seen negatively in many ways by foreigners, NASA was the shining exception to this rule.
It showed that US Americans could work together and do something great AND good, often in collaboration with other nations. It showed that a massive effort didn't have to involve war or ruin.
This is you at your best. Please be more like NASA.
"It is a site that we're building for the few New Yorkers who can be louder than an active site, which is New York's cutest" - Zohran Mamdani about the construction of NYC's first onsite childcare program for municipal employees.
@dansup Go look at wastewater testing where available. The COVID pandemic did not end, it's just that people decided to believe the "back to work" politicians who said it ended. There's also more and more people with long COVID, which wouldn't be happening if the pandemic was over.
I'm with mask lady (obviously).

I'm a lapsed Catholic and the reason I left the church is because it wasn't following its own tenets; I agree with pretty much everything in this thread - that the last two popes dramatically changed the Catholic church to the point that it is very much anti-fascist.
Bishop Roncalli would be proud of Frank and Leo.
