vSphere upgrades used to bring me out in a cold sweat.

I’m going to need to do some more testing but raising the unit up on a little pedestal so hot air doesn’t pool underneath it, has, I think, lowered temperatures across the board by ~6C.

It's a bit convoluted to explain but in short I am currently using the #proxmox hypervisor itself as the CIFS client to pull data from my old QNAP NAS and write it out to the ZFS pool on the #beelink ME Mini.

This has been saturating 1Gbps now for just over 30 minutes.

Doing so is only consuming perhaps 15-18% of CPU + 20% iowait (which will be down to the network port being full)

Ambient is ~22-24C
CPU is ~69C
NVMe sensors ~56-76C

A mere ~20-25W at the wall. Utterly mad.

Looking at the NVMe power states for these particular SSDs, they claim they shouldn't need more than 5W at most, so that leaves 15W for the CPU package if we manage to make the SSDs actually consume all 5W each, which seems.. unlikely, hopefully, with only 1xPCI-E Gen3 lane each (for most of them).

(Presuming "Max" is in fact, the Max)

Now I had seen some stories about people having SSDs drop out through a presumed lack of power when the CPU gets heavily loaded, so I bought the Kingston NV3 units as they seemed to be a good balance of fairly power efficient and easily available from our distributors, so fingers crossed I won't have any problems. (Though the vast majority of the time I am hardly going to be stressing the CPU!)

Nevertheless I really wish they had put another 10-15W of headroom into the PSU. 45W is not a lot.

I remain extremely impressed with the #beelink ME Mini: 24TB raw SSD storage and 7 containers so far in #proxmox 9 with 1 NIC connected at 1GbE, idling along at 9.2-13W (mostly 10.5-11.5W).

Still have a little over 8GiB of free RAM so I'm hopeful I'll be able to run nearly everything I might want running 24x7 in the home.

At approx 20-22C ambient the NVMe temperature sensors are all 40-60C, the CPU cores ~44-45C (at idle).
