ok the MINI service technician was empathetic, they said “please don’t tell me loss of power again?” I said yes and they said “I really didn’t want to hear that” - cos they replaced the whole turbo last time, and it’s bad, im so sad for this car and my bank account man 😭

Inuit artist Helen Konek was 17 years old when she was photographed walking into her family’s igloo in 1949, just outside what was then known as Eskimo Point (now Arviat, Nunavut).

Richard Harrington, a freelance photographer who had an interest in the North, took the photos of Helen while travelling in the Arctic that year.

His work was purchased by Canada's National Archives, the Smithsonian and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Helen died July 25 at the age of 95, but is forever immortalized in Harrington's images.

"I'm glad the image went viral, because even up to today, Canadians don't know where Nunavut is. They don't know who Inuit are," - Jordan Konek, Helen's nephew

everyone gets horded into a cinema in the hopes of surviving a massive ‘nade but they realise the building won’t hold and there’s no basement, so y’know, tension! oh no! bits of the ceiling start ripping off and flying away, but not very much so it still feels safe - and then the screen rips out and the ENTIRE wall disappears and you see the storm right through the wall space, the shot reminds me of like “L'Arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat” (that first movie of a train arriving at a station that freaked out viewers cos it felt like it was coming out of the screen), which felt cool.

So like, a cool idea! I felt good noticing the meta of it!

Ok so that was quite corny, a bit flat, but still mostly good which I chirp up mostly to the music (when it wasn’t country pop songs) and the excellent vfx comping that made every shot feel natural. Characters were flat, except the one played by Brandon Perea which was such a small part but left the biggest impression! The beginning was very good, it totally faked me out some jump scares, but then the rest became a bit formulaic and predictable.

Ah well! Still loooooooved Benjamin Wallfisch’s score and Dan Mindel’s photography

ok yesss hell yeah to the opening music!!! it’s giving tense 1992 thriller! who is it? Benjamin Wallfisch!!! I looooove his scores!!! and I can’t wait to see Brandon Perea, he was INCREDIBLY good in Nope (2022)!

unfortunately his laugh has now become an echolalia for me and im repeating it over and over even after the video's ended, just like i do after watching any of the modern Planet Of The Apes movies with their ape sounds

i have such a strong avulsion to Tom Scott's laugh, it makes me repeat it sarcastically as soon as i hear it, and it makes it so hard to watch his videos, which are usually great 🙈 also just, like, the way he talks when it's not scripted! 😬

ok now I agree, after 30 years of denial, that Lunch *is* Dinner. because mine is! it’s big and the largest meal I eat, and I have no dinner in the evening!

Thanks to Glasgow City Heritage Trust for sending me an information pack about their Brutal Glasgow Trail, celebrating the city's Brutalist Architecture. It's not a style that's everyone's cup of tea, but it's still an important part of the city's architectural history and I'm looking forward to checking the trail out. what with all the hellscrapers and captchas and ads and instagrams people talk all the time about giving up on the web and starting over, but the moment you say "yeah! let's just move all computing to luanti servers" they look at you like you lost your mind

but like... come on! you got a better idea than using open source minecraft as the substrate for building a new computing society? yeah that's what I thought
