Ey
Pronounced like "they" without the th. Also like the Fonz says "Ayyy!"

Em
Pronounced like "them" without the th. Or like the letter M.

Eir
Pronounced like "their" without the th. Also like air. Airhead, eirhead, you get it?

If you forget, "they/them/their" is always correct.

"She" is only for my secret shadow council of advisors. 👀 🤫

Seeing a lot of Europeans horrified that US toilet stalls all have gaps around the doors.

There's worse than that, I lived in a dorm where the doors were so short you could see people's heads and upper bodies. I also lived in a dorm where there were no stall doors at all.

I got really good at moving through spaces without seeing things.

Do something every day that decreases shareholder value.

I found my gender behind a Waffle House dumpster.

Sad truth: we are making the web accessible for AIs, not for people.
Some sites now offer a text version for LLMs, but still skip real accessibility needs like proper heading structure, landmarks that screen reader users need.

A weird thing. When I was young and did not choose my own peer group, I was a fish out of water, a closeted queer visibly neurodivergent kid (tic disorders are hard to hide) in a mostly neurotypical setting and it was basically a running joke that I was “unfuckable”. People would use the idea of a relationship with me as the butt of a joke. The absurdity was, apparently, self-evident.

I believed this. Internalised this. Assumed I would die alone.

And over time, I subconsciously chose my social circle. I guess I gravitated towards people who didn’t require so much masking nor cause so much stress via what is now called the Double Empathy Problem.

These days, my interactions with neurotypical people tend to consist of whether I want milk in that, or how much ketchup I’d like.

And meanwhile, it appears a queue has formed because, as I am told, I am “fucking hot” (even in my 50s and middle aged lesbians are the filthiest fuckers alive. We do, as they say, the weird stuff. It’s great!)

That was … unexpected.

I have a horrible thought. Someone's doctor is out there reading the AI summary of whatever medical journals and studies then basing real treatments around that.

You can very easily teach anti-capitalist theory just by using Rat Park, you can use Rat Park to explain these things to KIDS.

The 8 hour work day is not about squeezing 8 hours of productivity out of workers, it's about leaving workers too tired to do much else. We have less time to socialize, to raise our families, to build community and mutual support. We buy more to fill the hole left by our lack of community and the lack of time to care for ourselves.

Ooh, Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff mentioned Rat Park!

People think we didn't learn from rat park, but in fact, capitalism learned a great deal from rat park. Healthy well socialized people who have their needs met don't turn to chemicals/food/consumption as an escape from their reality. Misery makes profits.

Happy #Caturday. Coop wants to know why I got up at 4am. #CatsOfMastodon

@mekkaokereke Other relevant ways to reframe the debate:

"They pay $34 for burgers. Should their doormen, cooks, nannies, and drivers be able to access free child care conveniently near their workplaces?"

and

"They pay $34 for burgers. Should they be paying more in property tax, too?"

BTW, if anyone knows the cheapest way to get about 500 condoms from a reputable brand, help a poor kitty cat out. I'd been getting 100 packs of One™ Brand off Amazon and it's running me about $35 each. Not terrible, but puts a squeeze on my budget for sure

Testing and information about PrEP are some of the things I'd like to see at every convention. Last year the harm reduction panel at AnthrOhio had free condoms and Narcan, and I brought extra condoms to give away. I grew up under Reagan, we aren't going back.

Also, just because your grandmother wrote code when Fortran was new doesn't mean nobody over 40 needs cognitively accessible tech. I know we like to pretend cognitive disabilities don't exist because they're icky instead of sexy, but accessibility isn't about whose disabilities make you comfortable.

I hate the narrative that the "general public" is either too lazy or too stupid to keep ahead of big tech, when the landscape keeps changing daily for users.

I'm unironically having a great time, y'all. This feels so much like a bunch of film school kids made their own Clash of the Titans. Like every cheesy stop motion effect was just a labor of love for someone. I grew up with this kinda thing. ❤️

Whatever new platform you move to will eventually require you to turn over your ID, and the data you've submitted to the platform will be subject to subpoena.

Ring is rolling back many of the reforms it’s made in the last few years by easing police access to footage from millions of homes in the United States. This is a grave threat to civil liberties in the United States.
