So when did we all agree that sending a one-time password in email is more secure than using a secure password?

Best potato harvest so far. This is my second year trying to grow potatoes.

For anyone that's curious, here's the diffstat of the main #Pidgin 3 branch if we delete the in-tree XMPP stuff. The majority of what we have (which isn't much) is in an external library.

19 files changed, 0 insertions(+), 1019 deletions(-)

So finally read the at least the Pidgin part of https://op-co.de/blog/posts/emoji_xmpp_address/ and honestly considering just dropping #XMPP entirely from Pidgin 3 and even our server.

To put it nicely, the greater XMPP community hasn't exactly been kind to us over the years and really I'm starting to wondering why we continue to give them ammo.

Since the XMPP support in Pidgin 3 is currently just a skeleton, scrapping it isn't all that crazy.

So what do you all think?

It's officially official, #DigitalOcean supports the #Fascists and has given up on #OpenSource at large.

Greetings Programs! We're less than 48 hours away from @pidgin 3.0 Alpha 3! We've got a little bit more to get done before the release, so lets get to it!

Anyone know who to contact at #fastly about their #FastForward program?

I applied a LONG time ago but didn't have a chance to actually do anything so I reapplied on 2026-08-31 and haven't heard anything back yet.

Maybe I just need to be more patient, but I don't want to promote this at all until it's not tied to my personal credit card 😅

Can anyone tell me what happened to my watermelon?

This is the voter fraud that is being attempted...

Greetings programs! We're back again working on stuff related to @pidgin 3.0 instead of Pidgin itself because the world continues to devolve into a dystopia and I'd rather the money I pay for services not go to nazis!

I was going to say "unbelievable" but when it comes to AI every shitty thing seems to be the norm and should be expected...

I should probably write more on this, but this topic just came up in a private chat and want to share it here.

This discourse over #AI in #OpenSource is just the old Proprietary vs Open Source debate from 20+ years ago.

Back then, the proprietary people would say stuff like "Microsoft is everywhere, you can't avoid it", "Linux is a toy OS, real work requires windows", "You're going to be left behind".

Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

#FuckAI

Does anyone have any recommendations for #peertube instances for live streaming open source development?

After #twitch's recent AI opt-out stuff I've been passively looking but haven't found anything.

I could host my own, but I would really like to avoid that if possible as I already have way too much going on.

TIA

@pidgin Also if you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend you read this post from Joey Hess, the person that created debhelper to help simplify Debian packaging among many others.

https://joeyh.name/blog/entry/Debian_and_the_sirens/

I will never understand how the project that respected licenses and trademarks so much that they forked the entire #Mozilla stack to comply ever decided that #AI usage could ever be considered ethical.

I have many machines that are somehow related to @pidgin's development and the vast majority of them run #debian. To keep #AI out of #Pidgin, I now I need to find a new distribution. This is yet another example of me having to pay into the #AI time deficit. 🙄

Just saw another project that advertises that it uses rust in the first sentence of it's description. I'm really considering adding "proudly written in C" to @Pidgin and all the related projects and would encourage everyone to make the language their program is written in as a selling point.

"Django proudly written in Python"
"Prosody proudly written in Lua"
etc
