My take on the #AppleEvent
⁃ It gets tiring and annoying to hear nothing about Apple Home or the „HomePad“. Will there be HomeKit2? Will there be HomeOS? Developers need *some* future guideance. Apple Home is not a „future platform“ they can't talk about, it's a present, existing ecosystem and doesn't deserve this kind of neglect.
⁃ No matter their privacy initiatives, what sticks is that „The Apple watch is a listening device“, and that's bad. A feature that is interesting for maybe 5% of users (and investors 🙄) will alienate 50% of users. They don't do themselves a favor with this. (1/3)

⁃ If this goes on, and they really do camera AirPods, this will get worse. Do they really think they can sell headphones that are banned in public transport?!? And there's no way they won't be banned, because that's how lawmakers think, and Apple lost all credibility with to them with their behavior around DMA & Co. Those actions have consequences, and they are BAD for Apple and their developers.
⁃ I really like what they are doing to the iOS interface for the Duo. This is Apple at their best, and 90% of what we saw will be applicable to non-folding phones and iPads once the novelity wears off. Really well done.
⁃ I am sceptical about the durability of the Duo. The hinges will be fine, but I fear what happens if a grain of sand comes between the inner displays. They can’t be hardened with Ceramic Shield like the outside (which works extremely well btw, my iPhone Air is scratch-free after a year without any protection) (2/3)

⁃ It is no coincidence that they introduced the automatic eSIM hot-swapping between two phones. You won't take the Duo to the beach or the playground, and you won’t take it on hikes. It's a phone for people who have a secondary iPhone - and still don't mind the price tag. (3/3)

With Meta perv glasses, Apple new always listening AI watch and Smart TVs tracking everything you watch, I fear that all my future meetings will be conducted naked in a Faraday cage.

Watching this Apple event tout how iPhones will soon be able to record ambient audio/conversations and transcribe "high level notes" for you. It's billed as private and end-to-end encrypted, but I think the bigger harm is the normalization of always-listening devices. It's creepy and not normal.

Thinking about building an iOS/macOS App for hard to manage Appstore Connect stuff: Offer Codes, Invoices, Stats/Widgets, and a lot of other stuff that's missing. What do you think of the name "Apps to reconnect“?

Mac AppStore, besides its shortcomings, has its advantages: I just subscribed to a Mac app outside of it, and more than one hour later, the mail with the activation code has not arrived. Neither does the "magic link" to the billing portal. And the support is unavailable, it's an indie dev in LA and he’s probably asleep.
