Disappointed that Homebrew added Photocraft and all those other vibe-coded *craft apps almost immediately (https://formulae.brew.sh/cask/photocraft). The legality of these vibe-coded apps is questionable, and ethically it's even worse.

this is the perfect metaphor to understand the distinction between AI doomer concerns versus AI skeptic concerns
I went back to the Whistler exhibition at Tate Britain, London. These nocturnes really move me. Such a sense of peace.

The smartest piece of office behaviour I’ve ever seen was a coworker who used a picture of his home office as his background for teams meetings when in office so that people would assume he was WFH and not come find him in person to solve problems or chat

An SVG inside <img> has always been a styling dead end: you can place it, but you can’t paint it. CSS Linked Parameters fix that, and Firefox Nightly is the only browser that has them so far.
So I traced Warhol’s Marilyn into four flat plates and repainted it nine times from a single 50 KB file. One network request 💅
If you really want to tell disabled people to use an open source or alternative thing instead of the proprietary thing, you better make damn well sure that open source or alternative thing is at least screen reader friendly as a bare minimum when it comes to disability access if you're the developer.
If you're a user of the open source or alternative thing, encourage the developer to do better than the proprietary developers on all disability developments, even when the developer tries to make the excuse that they are not a large corporation and can't afford the accessibility developments.
If you can't figure out why disable people continue to use proprietary thing when open source or alternative thing exist, shut the fuck up and do a lot more reading instead of replying.
Interesting table comparing the times between introduction of WebP, AVIF and JPEG XL and support being added to web browsers, operating systems and graphics software:
https://cloudinary.com/blog/2026-the-year-of-jpeg-xl#_strong_strong_timing_and_interoperability
Browsers should probably transcode WebP/AVIF/JXL images to JPEG on save, or offer the option.
Probably not going to happen because of the technical roadblocks, but still.
Anyone who’s upgraded to macOS 27 know if the “mismatched Siri/systems language” trick will keep it from downloading the local AI models? I’ve heard mixed reports and want to find out before upgrading.
⚠️ This is not an invite to discuss AI in my mentions! I’ve been chronically low on disk space and don’t want to budget the 17-30GB extra space they’ll take up. ⚠️

This is why you write text alternatives yourself. Saying “AI will do it” makes blind people reliant on gatekeepers. Imagine if in the US models would think of ICE Agents as “sensitive content”. This tech is not neutral even as it pretends to be it.
"JPEG XL isn't useless; it is genuinely compelling technology for use cases beyond the Web. I'm just not personally convinced we need it in browsers any time soon." https://giannirosato.com/blog/post/case-against-jxl/
Almost ready to launch Remarkdown v4. 😤 The things I've done with Sass…
Updated to macOS 27. The visual config I find bearable (in dark mode), in System Settings:
Appearance > Liquid Glass: slider all the way to the right (less transparency, more contrast)
Accessibility > Display: Show borders on, Differentiate without color on.
Other accessibility options that can help are “Increase contrast” and “Reduce transparency”, but they’re a bit more extreme.
I like:
- Sidebars look okay again, none of that wasteful double border/padding look.
- Window corners not being all over the place.
Dislike:
- Traffic light buttons look like ass, they’re distracting when they should get out of the way.
You know the whole #Coxon #Anthropic "We're all gonna die" thing? It's kinda looking like paid astroturfing. Marketing psyop to coincide with #Nvidia declaring that microchips are "long term investible assets". We are being played, y'all.
Jacob had almost zero footprint, wiped his X before the post, and had only been at Anthropic for a few months. Within a few minutes of the WSJ dropping the story, he does his announcement post on the twitters, and is instantly boosted by some of the biggest names in the AI field, which is not how organic engagement works for an account with no followers. His follower count goes up by hundreds of thousands, he gets media attention everywhere, and suddenly everyone is talking about LLM like it's a mind, and not a computer with an OFF switch.
At the same time, Nvidia hard launches the term "AI Factory" to rebrand datacenters and try and raise 500 billion dollars from your retirement fund.
I dunno gang, I think I'm calling shenanigans on this.
A study on non-binary people had 38% of people respond that they are AMAB. If you don't notice any, that just says something about the communities you are a part of.

I think my disagreement with software developers who want to use LLMs to generate a lot of code is that I don’t think we need more software faster.
I have no proof of that, but I suspect we now have digitized and built software for almost everything useful, and sometimes for harmful stuff as well. Software has eaten the world. Communication, entertainment, education, productivity, research, etc. The market is totally addressed.
We actually need to slow down and write less code, fix old code, make things more accessible and performant, more secure, more usable, etc. The correct frontier is quality, not quantity or time-to-market.
But that‘s a low-growth or even economically stagnant prospect, so your employers and investors don’t want that, and you can’t sell them on it and get a promotion or even a job.
There could be an argument that one could AI-harness their way into producing better software, but let’s be real, that’s not what your OKRs say.
And I’m not closed to the idea that our needs may change. If we get some scientific breakthroughs that make software applicable to more parts of the world in helpful ways, maybe *then* we will need to write more software faster.
But right now we’re probably putting the code before the need.
Software developers think they’re explorers colonizing space, when the actual need, by now, is for them to be plumbers maintaining an essential down-to-earth infrastructure of an almost fixed size.
