“I try to imagine it. I try to put myself in the orderlies’ shoes as they walk into the morgue to find a dead surgeon hovering over the body of a dead coroner. I try to smell the blood in the room. "

The newsletter today is about glueing googley eyes on a band saw and then calling it sentient when you cut your fingers off.
“The analysts at Onyx are like mole people. They are always hiding in the dark somewhere, always sequestered in a fortress of solitude going through information. “

“I have a red shoebox under my bathroom sink. That’s where I keep my collection of random drugs. I don’t really do drugs, but keeping leftover painkillers, antibiotics, mood medications, and pick-me-ups always seemed like an intelligent thing to do. That red box has saved my ass more times than I could count.”

LOL “A business model which is so successful, by the way, that my tiny one-man company made infinitely more profit last month than OpenAI ever has. If you’re confused by that look up division by zero.” new post from @rysiek https://rys.io/en/184.html
I am watching the Jon Stewart interview with Jacob Coxon, that boy who quit anthropic and openai and saying blah blah NOTHING. This kid, this BOY is...jfc. This kid doesn't know his ass from his elbow. It's unbelievable. Last question from Stewart "do you still have your stock?" Coxon: "Yes in OpenAI" shit eating grin.
“I don’t want Onyx associated with InterVision’s research in a few months when Scott Spencer and his board of cronies screw the pooch and announce that their fucking contact lenses burn holes in your eyes.”

“Every time I look up at the giant black trapezoid that serves as our office, I imagine hordes of mad scientists and evil geniuses crafting the next generation of robotic super soldiers and mutualist biogenetic weaponry. “

Good post today about not letting platforms determine the words we use from @anildash
"For Kant, human beings, as rational, self-determining agents, have an absolute worth that cannot be priced, a dignity that does not depend on any other value."
one of my pet peeves about the term "artificial intelligence" is the implication that "intelligence" has a tidy definition. It doesn't. We humans have been talking about it for centuries. This article talks a bit about philosophy of mind and the relationship to AI. I didn't agree with every single interpretation but I enjoyed reading it.
We are not machines y'all and we should give a toss about our ability to actually *think*

We live in a time of excessive logic. We tell ourselves this is rational and normal, but really we should be let our freak flags fly all the time because human existence is crazy hard and weird. Have been thinking about that a lot for the last few months:

I want a law against Advents calendars and Xmas decorations being sold in September and October. By law there should be no mention of anything December related until after Halloween.
Well, I had to ask for an extension, but I published my final unit 1 #NaM assignment. My art is valid. Watch out for brain monsters!
“…If you’re just tuning in, we’re at the Harron Medical Center where tragedy has struck over the last two days. A surgeon and his surgical team are dead. A floor nurse has been quarantined. "

“I meandered home. Then I poured myself a drink. This sort of situation called for Tequila. After three shots, the abscess was the backdraft of the fire in my throat, and I was ready to turn myself in to the hospital."

Interview: AI is not the threat. It's the people building it "that are the existential risks to humanity."
"If a bridge collapses, we don’t ever ask, “Was the bridge uncontrollable? Was the bridge unethical?” And really, AI is no different than that."
When we describe these systems as if they have their own agency, we’re helping the companies market themselves. "We’re also helping them sidestep accountability."
