Huh.

Consumer Reports (CR) has released a mobile app (iOS, Android on the way) that shows what data companies collect about you, then allows you to have CR get the data deleted:

https://www.permissionslipcr.com

Essentially, CR will act as the data ombudsman for anyone who asks them to. I love it.

CR is a non-profit that accepts no advertising or corporate sponsorship, and they have a great reputation. It's a superb choice to take on the data capitalists.

US-only (don't @ me).

Is sports mastodon a thing?

Wow, wow, wow ❤️ https://t.co/cmLCEZwRA4

Damar Hamlin. Incredible.

Just finished watching the 2022 remake of All Quiet in the Western Front. Intense, powerful, and difficult to watch. A sobering reminder about the brutal, violent stupidity of war.

mastodon.social seems to have a lot of issues — I have trouble posting photos, liking/bookmarking/boosting posts, following people, etc. — what servers do folks recommend? I’m happy to pay if it functions well!

If you are a WA state resident, please take 30 seconds today to vote "Pro" on House Bill 1489 and vote this beautiful license plate from Don Clark at Invisible Creature into existence. Such perfect colors. Truly the G.O.A.T. plate. 🙌 https://app.leg.wa.gov/csi/Testifier/Add?chamber=House&mId=30611&aId=150298&caId=21007&tId=3

I didn’t poll to force the issue, my brain normally doesn't work this way (and this week it barely works at all).

But really happy to see the quick response from the project, having support server side will make for a much better experience all around.

Hello Friends,

Wanted to make a note that our current roadmap is on our website: https://tapbots.com/ivory/#roadmap

We are a small company of 3 people and only 1 of us replies on this account. Between all the emails and messages here, it's hard to always answer everyone, but we do our best. If your question doesn't get answered here, it's not because we don't care. It's just impossible to always be around to answer everyone. Feel free to send us an email if you don’t get a response here. Thank you! 🙂

I just released TwitVault: A cross-platform desktop app that archives your Twitter data (mentions, responses, profiles, lists, more) and makes it offline browsable and searchable. It can also import the official Twitter archives. #rust

The many choices of @Ivory app icons stresses me out. I need to know which one y’all are rocking.

I've had the idea for a weird kind of Twitter client for years. With Mastodon being all open, I've decided to do the experiment:

What if your Timeline looked like iMessage. A normal timeline confuses me to no end because everything is out of context.

My experiment, Ebou, is a Mastodon client that looks like iMessage. Conversations are grouped by friends and sorted by recent postings.

It is super basic right now, but this already feels much more natural to me 😀

Heading to San Francisco next week. Haven’t been back in maybe 3.5 years. What’s the vibe like there- back to normal? thriving? Any good new restaurants to try?

On the musical side of things—Protoblade is out today. Thanks for listening ⚔️ 🙌 🎧 https://echowolfmusic.com/

It was nice to get out of the cold and gray of CLE and spend some time with co-workers in L.A. ☀️

Tip for anyone who's been put off building stuff with JS due to the terrifying array of build tools and packages and framework choices you have to make these days

You don't have to use any of that stuff!

A few years ago I gave myself permission to ignore it all and just use default browser environments... and it turns out to be a really fun, productive, dare I say delightful environment to work in

Now that we can ignore IE compatibility modern JS and browser APIs are really nice to work with!

Hmmm…images aren’t posting from @ivory

Ok, so.

Tweets look really good when you send them in Messages on iOS/macOS. Mastodon posts… don’t. So I built a little tool that makes them much nicer to look at:

https://mstdn.link

Add ?to={any Mastodon post URL} to the end of that domain and when you send it to a friend, you get the nice looking preview. Of course the page makes it easy to paste a URL in. And there’s a Shortcut to make it even easier on iOS or macOS.

TIL:

camelCase
kebab-case
snake_case
SCREAMING_SNAKE_CASE

I knew of the various cases, but not all the names.
