(edited because I got the date wrong)
Well this is sad news to me. On June 22, CHU -- the Canadian shortwave radio time signal broadcast -- will cease operation. I discovered CHU as a kid when I first started listening to shortwave radio many, many years ago. It's always been there.
It's the end of an era.
According to the NWS we've had 49.2 inches of snow so far this season here in Traverse City. Normal snowfall for this period is 23.3 inches.
Yikes!
This is an interesting combination of weather alerts. In Traverse City we currently have both a Frost Advisory and a Fire Weather Watch.
I'm still settling in here. I've added an avatar which may be familiar to people who've known me elsewhere, but the avatar is a lie now. I had that wizard beard for a long time. I even competed in some beard competitions. But when the CDC recommendation was that people should upgrade their masks to N95 or other high quality masks, I shaved the beard off. Even a good mask doesn't work if it can't create a good seal and you can't get a good seal with facial hair. So the beard had to go. Ah well.

I'm retired and living in northern #Michigan in a small blue enclave surrounded mostly by red in the rest of the county.
I have a Ph.D. in [inaudible mumble]. I was a university faculty member mostly teaching statistics and research methods courses. Eventually I left the university and spent the rest of my career working in various government agencies, doing the sorts of things that I used to teach about (data analysis, data management, information systems).
