The greatest trick coffee pod companies ever pulled was convincing people to pay more for cheap coffee wrapped in trash.

Tens of billions of single-use coffee pods and capsules are used every year. Many are made from mixed plastic, foil, aluminum, filters, lids, and wet coffee grounds, which makes them annoying or impossible to recycle through normal curbside systems. Even the 'recyclable' ones often require special collection programs most people don't have easy access to.

The pod gives you one cup of coffee, then leaves behind a tiny piece of manufactured garbage that may outlive you.

Pictured is an example of how this type of blanket can come out; it's really good for using up little bits of yarn. She'll bring a few spare sets of double point needles and some yarn but feel free to bring yours also, the more the merrier :)

Last week I looked for #embroidery supplies for a project and couldn't find them in shops. I gave up, looked online, but then discovered Stitchtastic is within walking distance of my house in #Dronfield.

A couple of emails later, my order was ready for collection first thing today. I'm now on a trip with everything I need. I'm unreasonably pleased with this result and they've found a loyal customer-evangelist for years to come. :blobcatsmug:

On a train for a solo trip to #LDX3 #London. It's been a few years since I've had a chance to attend #LeadDev, and I'm really looking forward to it.

So you might have not seen that the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) the UK body that's, on paper, meant to make sure everyone has equal rights, has issued new guidance on single sex spaces regarding trans folk.

TL/DR: Trans folk are meant to use the toilets that align with what a doctor thought when the person was born.

Unfortunately the guidance is extremely inconsistent and seems to be pretending that the Gender Recognition Act never happened. There are a lot of other people talking about this in more detail than I can. Go find out about it, go understand that the people who are supposedly making this country more equal are actively trying to make it less so.

Please be loud about this. Please write to your MPs.

In the UK, it's now unlawful to use a Henry Hoover in the ladies' toilet.

Electric cargo bikes are such a game changer. On a whim, I stopped by the wholefood cash and carry today and picked up about 18kg of groceries: wheat grain, rye grain, rice, muesli, 12 tins of chopped tomatoes, tea bags. I honestly didn't notice them on the bike and had a nice ride through the park and quiet streets to get home.

Also! I forgot my wallet. Oh no! But because the cash and carry is a co-op staffed by humans with agency they were like: "no worries, here's the bill, just send us the money when you get home" (I did).

Compare that with driving a noisy car to the big supermarket and turning out empty pockets to the helpless cashier. Another world is possible, folks.

UK Folks with chronic pain and similar health issues; I’m looking for advice on behalf of my sister who has ME/CFS, fibromyalgia and other chronic issues. The pain clinic just dismissed her with “you’re too unhappy, you need to be more motivated” and won’t do anything else for her. What routes are there, if any, to get her some decent help? Or get a complaint going?

The creator of ChatGPT is named "Altman," as in "alternative to human" and he leads OpenAl, which is completely closed.

His main opponent is the company Anthropic, meaning "human-centered" is led by "Amodei," as in "loves gods".

Then there's "Gemini," meaning "two-faced," from a company that said that it will do no evil.
