Plotting mischief...

The wee one and the grand-dog.

I had a lovely albeit simple lunch today. A couple of slabs of freshly cut sourdough bread. A hard boiled egg. 2 types of lettuce. 3 types of basil. Mint. Garlic chives. Celery leaves. Parsley. And a ton of freshly ground pepper. Just scrumptious.*

*All the greens were picked straight from the garden.

First Aid course done and dusted. We're both certified, not certifiable, so that's a relief.

I have a black tie event next month and my friend came over to see how much my fancy new evening gown needs to be shortened before I take it in to be altered. I bribed her with the promise of a charcuterie board and an overabundance of wine afterwards. We had a great day. I also fixed her phone.

Found out at 4:40pm on Friday that I need to trek into Civic by 11:00am tomorrow (Monday) with the wee one for a CIC: Comprehensive Family Assessment with a Clinical Forensic Psychologist so they observe his interactions with each of his parents in turn (and theirs with him). Husband and I will have to do ours at 10:00am in a couple of weeks. And I'll be at the dentist from 8am that day. So who knows how that will go!

No school for him and no work for me on either day.

We have already taken him for a 2 hour developmental assessment at Coombs last Thursday, and will take him for a flu vaccination this Wednesday afternoon.

Plus, he has fortnightly OT Wednesday afternoons and will commence Speech Therapy sessions every second Thursday morning next week. Plus 4 x 2 hourly family contact visits with his parents (separately) each week.

And I do like him to go to childcare/preschool so he can socialise with other kids and, you know, hopefully do some actual learning.

Another "Meet the Author" at ANU tonight. Monday was Norman Swan, and tonight is Josh Black (my old Australian politics tutor).

Joshua Black will be in conversation with Andrew Leigh on his new book Performance Politics: Australian politicians and the stories they tell, which provides an eye-opening account of how Australian politicians have become experts at fashioning and refashioning stories about themselves, their lives, personal ambitions and political entanglements.

Delving into memoirs, autobiographies, documentaries, media coverage, personal papers and original interviews, the book reveals how much of our recent political history has been delivered through the prism of the publishing house, the book launch, the documentary, and the lounge rooms where political retrospectives were broadcast. From a time when ‘telling tales out of school’ (as Billy Hughes once put it) was not the done thing, to one where the 2024 Nemesis documentary showcased backstabbing, character assassinations and high emotions.

Performance Politics shows how political life writing and documentary making has played an outsized role in creating the story-driven political culture of our times. Settling scores, shaping legacies and dramatising the democratic process, sometimes in shocking ways.

Guess who collapsed/fainted on the bathroom floor this morning? Husband had to half carry me back to my bed. This lurgy is not fun but I feel okay now. Still in bed and no work will be achieved again today. Bugger.

I'm a bit groggy this morning. The wee one had a rough night. He woke with a nightmare (I think) around 12:40am but he also had a temp. He was very loving and told me several times that he was happy I was there in his room with him. He's still asleep but I think I was lucky to get two hours.

Ban Gambling Ads campaign

If you’ve signed the Ban Gambling Ads petition, you'll have received our email on that topic last week. If you didn’t, and are able to, please sign now! (And if you’re not sure, please go ahead because any duplicates are automatically deleted).

As a brief summary, we’re still a bit short of our target, so please suggest the petition to friends and family. This is our last chance before the petition is due to be tabled in Parliament early next week, delivering pressure to the government at a critical time. You can read Jessie’s submission to the senate inquiry, as well as listen again to recent interviews on the subject, such as this one on Radio 2CC. There is even a suggestion that agitation on the issue by Jessie as well as Senator Pocock have ‘Labor representatives in Canberra increasingly at risk of succumbing to a teal-style wave in the territory.’

I am hopeful that the "six days of klutz" is finally over.
I have dropped so many small things that have managed to escape my grasp and then hidden themselves in inaccessible places. Crushed my finger when a folding stool collapsed. Favourite jeans expired. Unleashed a torrent of milk by not tightening the lid enough. Even my favourite computer mouse died. And the replacement mouse was delivered somewhere that was not my house.
So far today I've not dropped, broken, or lost anything... 🤞

No Covid vaccinations for us today! I had to cancel and reschedule our appointments as husband was very unwell last night. Hopefully nothing stops us this coming Monday.

The wee one now has his own space (room) set up just for him. All that furniture assembly has worn us out.
