Excellent talk. This reinforces everything I’m reading in Roland Bunch’s book Restoring the Soil, and the methods I’m increasingly turning to in the garden: Less emphasis on #compost and more emphasis on #CoverCrops. Maximizing root exudates is mentioned continuously throughout the webinar. Photosynthesis does most of the heavy lifting for us. Incredible. #soil #gardening @gardening

The obituary of the mechanical intellect was written a century ago by Kurt Gödel.

The machine god is stillborn.

"New science of soil organic matter formation"

Inputs of the like of compost and manure that were thought to be vital turn out to be bit players and shockingly

I know I'm singing to the choir here... but... seriously? Don't share your credentials with anyone. Not your real-life friends, and definitely not your "AI" pals. The industry is still missing a robust, standardized, agentic identity authentication and authorization mechanism. Come on, people. Have we learned nothing?!

Never forget the fate of all tyrants' dreams.

Rubble. The dreams of tyrants end in rubble.

I have held it in my hand.

I mostly try to be unattached to material possessions. "All things are impermanent." and all that. But I used to have this bit of concrete that I lost and regret losing. A friend of mine had visited Germany, you see, and brought it back for me.

It was from Berlin, he visited there in 1990. Not East Berlin, not West Berlin, Berlin.

This piece of concrete was from the Wall.

We picked the absolute worst time in history to make it possible for any moron with either some stolen API keys or a hundred or so bucks to find and exploit vulns in anything internet-facing.

The question about whether LLMs have feelings is a category error. They don't "have" "feelings"; they don't "have" anything. They are not even things. They are math. I hope this clears things up.

This is depressing. Perfectly good alternatives to all Adobe have existed for many years and are used at pro level, but someone hallucinates some code with claude (which I hear was trained on code of programs like gimp and inkscape) and suddenly everyone is raving about it being the end of Adobe, though the thing they praise is at best entry level stuff. But like other snake oil sellers, they claim it will get there, though their "in one month" is now "many months" #artcraft #foss

Please help finance GIMP, Inkscape and Krita instead of spending your money on trying to get Claude to make you a Photoshop clone.

Corvids are widely considered some of the smartest animals on Earth, with cognitive abilities that rival those of great apes and young human children. Their problem-solving skills, use of tools, make them standout subjects in animal intelligence research.

It's blissfully, wonderfully cold this morning! I had to put on a sweater and I'm loving it. ❄️😂

Et tu Linus?

(It's an imperfect metaphor, of course. I'm not Caesar, and Torvalds is not my Brutus. The feeling of betrayal is misplaced. The feeling of disappointment though is true.)
