Here's a behind the scenes #BTS timelapse of how I created the graphic using #Kdenlive and #Inkscape

Over the course of three 3-hour sessions, you'll learn how to edit audiovisual footage using #Kdenlive, a free and open-source software. You'll also be provided with some tools and resources to source assets.

This workshop is perfect for you if you're...

- tired of paying monthly for (or pirating) expensive creative suites
- not sure where to start with #editing, or where to find good music to use
- searching for a chill and welcoming community of creatives to collaborate with, get feedback from, and exchange ideas with

Do you have footage that's been sitting in your cameral roll for ages, but don't know where to start with #videoediting? You're in luck! Join us this October for a pay-what-you-can (PWYC) video editing workshop series, in collaboration with the Digital Arts Resource Centre. 📼

One of our workshop participants, Yousra, was gracious enough to share her portfolio site, completed thanks to the workshop! 🥳

Last week, I published a #newsletter on the latest candide ꘎ media happenings:

Here's a little tldr; for my fedi friends 🫶🏿

This past June, candide ꘎ media hosted the very first edition of the Website Workshop series! We learned how to plan, design, and build websites using free and open-source tools like #Quickmock, #Penpot, #Publii, and #wwwobble.

You're in luck! Join us Wednesdays in June for the Website Workshop! 🌐 Each week, we'll cover a different aspect of website creation: planning, design, and creation -- all using #opensource #FOSS software like #Penpot and #Publii.

Are you...
- a #racialized / #BIPOC (#Black, #Indigenous, #PersonofColour) #artist, #designer, or #creative?
- looking to #design a personal #website to showcase your work, thoughts, or next project?
- tired of paying monthly for website builders that lock your content into their platform?
- not sure what a website domain is, or where to find good fonts to use?
- searching for a chill and welcoming community of creatives to exchange ideas with?

Don't get me wrong, I've really enjoyed using Listmonk. When I first started looking for open-source newsletter apps a few years ago, it was the most feature-rich, nicest looking, cheapest, and easiest to set up as a beginner. I've learned so much about self-hosting and SMTPs just by managing my Listmonk instance over the years.

The addition of the visual editor introduced a few releases ago also brought the user experience to the next level.

Back in 2023, I made a Twitter thread on how to switch to a low-cost, open-source #FOSS platform for newsletters called #Listmonk following #Mailchimp's changes to their free plan: https://xcancel.com/candidexmedia/status/1623069575267905537

Now, almost 3 years later, after many changes in both the Listmonk app and the platform I used to host it, #Railway, I'm faced with having to make some changes to my #EmailMarketing stack. Mailchimp, for its part, seems to have restricted its free plan even more...

Today's pick for Creative Commons licensed music is Sassy Things, an album by GENDEMA:

This ambient, drum and bass classic is licensed under CC-BY 4.0 📟🔌

I come across so many amazing Creative Commons licensed songs that I save to my collection for use in creative projects, and I think it's time I start sharing them! 😊

Today's pick: Deep Dive by Tom Manzarek 🪩 This groovy house jam is licensed under CC-BY-NC-ND (and found thanks to @BCBYNCSA):

Edit: it was https://blot.im!

This might be a bit of a long shot, but does anyone know the name of the #SiteGenerator / #CMS / #SiteBuilder that works by reading a folder with files. The files can be docx, #markdown, #HTML, image files, etc. The platform can read them all, and generates a site with pages.

I believe the platform is either freemium or paid, solo dev (or very small team). I remember browsing the site last year, but wish I could remember the name of this platform...

If I'm not mistaken, one of the libraries/models used for the object selection in #Krita is the same as the one used for #Kdenlive's new Object Mask effect (#SAM2).

Here's another demo of the open source background removal and object selection plugin for #Krita.

A recent discussion on open-source Photoshop alternatives (https://mastodon.design/@candidexmedia/114558704815706042) led me down a rabbit hole of image background removal in @Krita.

Turns out there's a fantastic third-party plugin which can accurately select an object inside an image by clicking or drawing a box! ✨

Here it is: https://github.com/Acly/krita-ai-tools

Resources are also available after each week on an online portal, which I'm testing out for a (possible) future online asynchronous course on #Kdenlive. (Stay tuned! 😉)

This workshop has been 5 yrs in the making, and I'm curious to know if there are other #media instructors here on fedi who teach #FOSS tools for content creation to #artists, #designers, #creatives 🤔

This month, I (soft) launched the redesigned https://candide.media website, and (officially) launched the "Frugal Filmmaking: Video Editing on a Budget" course! 🥳

The hybrid course (happening both in-person and virtually) teaches participants how to edit video using @kdenlive, where to find #CreativeCommons assets, how to add effects, and more.

The workshop aims to strike the right balance between teaching how #kdenlive works, #videoediting techniques, and thinking critically about video.
