It's fascinating how many folks think that reasoning about the behaviour of code is obsolete. Even more fascinating how many thought it was obsolete before LLM code generation took off.

I'm trying to imagine writing, reading or modifying code with no internal mental model of its semantics.

@bodil A compatible rust implementation exists in the form of vaultwarden. It is quite mature now and I have been self hosting it for at least 2y. I have no knowledge of their AI policy, though.

I just want to say, for no particular reason, that if you're looking for a personal password manager, KeePassXC is currently the best there is. You'll have to add your own way to sync the password file across devices, but, this being Mastodon, I'd be surprised if you don't have one already.

If you absolutely don't want to deal with syncing it yourself, or if you need to share passwords across a group, Bitwarden is currently as good as it gets.

Validate the contact methods, people! Email validation is so easy. If you are capable of taking the address, and sending an email, you have everything you need to verify the address. It's sad that companies' carelessness causes pain for people like this customer, and the restaurant, who probably just trusted their web dev, or reservation service.

Almost _all_ the cost of software is in the future. That's part of why _any_ new feature is alluring. It _appears_ inexpensive from here. Turns out the cost is just unknown.

YAGNI (you aren't gonna need it) doesn't just apply to functions, methods, or classes. It applies to entire feature sets that sound neat, fun, or interesting. Someone has to maintain that shit for the lifespan of the software unless it's explicitly deprecated which simply doesn't happen, in my experience.
