I hate how cars being so expensive means that they need to be treated like “assets” (derogatory). You can’t take out the hands-free trunk opening sensor—that would lower the resale value! Even though it only triggers when I’m bent over hooking up a trailer? Ugh.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is down to ~$40 again. Is it worth that price and do I have even remotely the time? This assumes that my mini PC can even run it well enough to play.

My wife excitedly informed me that science has declared that wasps can recognize people and perform inductive reasoning. I’ve been ushering wasps out of our home politely in a pair of 5 oz Dixie cups for weeks and they’re pretty clearly getting used to it.
The one yesterday “followed me back into the bathroom like a puppy” while I went to go get the cups. They’re not usually found frantically bashed against the window or screen trying to get anymore, just sitting and waiting for the taxi back to the outside.

Also, yes, I ran file, strings and nm -C on it before running it—or doing what most sensible folks would consider step 0 and finishing reading about it…

Gah… what the fuck! I mean, I guess this isn’t meaningfully worse than naming your warcrime company after something in a series by a guy fundamentally scarred by his experience in war, but it definitely sucks and I don’t want it in my inbox!

My brain needs to know *why* before it will follow rules. I don’t know if that’s engineer, ADHD, or autism (first two confirmed, last tentative).

The first thing was that my father-in-law refused to teach my wife to back up a trailer and yelled at me saying that I didn’t want to learn. This is not precisely true. I’m not motivated to learn and don’t want to be instructed by him; true enough. I’ll just keep fucking around with the trailers and disconnecting them and man-handling them by main force when I fuck up until I have it down. The escape hatch of “oh, I’ll just put myself in place of the car” actually working is probably limiting my progress because I don’t want to be doing most of the trailering, so the sooner I can be done the better.

The second thing that happened (yeah, I’m going out of order) was that I went to a pottery class and couldn’t make the clay do what I wanted. Hours later, I realize that—duh—you can’t make the clay go back in from a larger radius to a smaller because you’ve no practical way to channel the excess clay of the circumference. Which I wouldn’t have had to discover if I’d followed the instruction more carefully and extruded to the height I wanted at the initial radius before widening the bowl.
This is what I eventually decided to have fitted and glazed. No idea what the fuck it is.

Thoughts on learning and instruction:
Apparently, my learning style is FAFO when the topic is a thing that you can actually *do*. This seems extremely obvious in hindsight and probably a thing I’ve noted before, but two things happened this weekend to bring it to the fore (again?).

Free game mechanic idea: needing to seal any hull breaches you cause before leaving a compartment in the space or high-altitude station. (Something like Infra but IN SPAAAACE and/or the opposite of Hardspace: Shipbreaker)
Possibly a way to discourage use of high-powered projectile weapons or nudge the player to make their shots count.
I think Prey had a segment where you needed to restore power to some magic force fields to get in a location, but I’ve never had to weld patches onto hull plates or squirt sealant into a bullet hole.
