Helix is amazing omg why have I been torturing myself with vim motions when there are better alternatives?

I never thought I could move off neovim, but I think Helix might be pulling me away.

Great release, if you need AI in your spreadsheet, you can use `openpyxl` instead.

Abstaining from AI use will earn you a pat on the back... and that's about it. Good job, buddy.

- Frontier labs aren't demand-financed by marginal chat users, they're financed by capital markets betting on enterprise substitution (Anthropic had its first "positive" quarter when switching Enterprise plans to API rates)
- this card probably indicts data centre and training capex, and local models are the only true threat to data centre capex, simply due to token economics of these models
- Coding agents, imo, are atm a golden chance to massively provide open solutions to previously proprietary tech (think phone modem binary blob reverse engineering, ...).

Now that #Fauci is in the spotlight, reminder that Ursula von der Leyen personally negotiated a massive #COVID vaccine contract with Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla (the biggest vaccine procurement in EU history), entirely through private text messages and phone calls.

When requesting access to the texts, under the EU transparency procedure, the Commission responded that it _had_ seen the texts, but that it _allowed_ them to vanish.

Basically, when the Commission's handling of the texts constituted maladministration, their reply was effectively that maladministration is their administrative style, and that "texts got lost, such is life".

They've learned nothing because the structure doesn't require them to learn: there is no electorate that can throw von der Leyen out, no parliament that selected her, and no mechanism by which the ruled can punish the rulers for this.

The same Commission is trying to shove Chat Control down your throat btw

Is it just me or does #BikeTooter lean more #gravel or #mtb than pure road?

Where are the #RoadBike riders?

There's an insane number of IMSI catchers in Taipei. I get GrapheneOS pings almost daily.

Anyone know what this is about? News mentions SIM card fraud.

#BikeTooter how do you lot display your GPX or FiT files on the web? No Strava please.

Is there any fediverse social sharing activity app? The ActivityPub protocol seems almost perfect for this use case.

Lmao @ the Polymarket odds on the Hungarian election.

I'm not gonna hold my breath for this result, in Romania we were also very excited about electing Nicusor Dan to be "the reformer", and he ended up being the same captured politician that fights to uphold sinecures and protect patronage networks.

The web was dying before LLMs, and collectively, we're partly to blame.

Is there any fediverse/ActivityPub fitness tracker, basically Strava for the fediverse?

Both the Gulf States and the Asian Tigers made the huge mistake of assuming the 2nd Trump Presidency is about kissing up and business deals. "We're just gonna pay into the protection racket and we'll have our stability ensured". What they didn't account for is that this 2nd Trump term isn't the abberation that the first presidency was, but actually an ideological, revolutionary presidency that's set on lighting up the periphery to keep the Imperial Core warm.

If you're #Taiwan, #SouthKorea or #Japan right now, your politicians should be shitting their pants for putting all their eggs into the US Basket.

If decisions made by the current US Admin seem bewildering to Americans, whether it's taxes, military spending, forever wars and interventionism, it's because the interests of the state are diverging from interests of the people, Rana Dasgupta argues on Novara.

The US is moving to becoming more and more resembling Britain in the 18th century, with the moving of industrial production out of the US, the wealth disparity between the elites and working class, what AI is doing to the industrial sectors and how only a small billionaire class can effectively participate in the state and economy.

Dasgupta argues that this isn't just an economic assault, but also a political assault on all the rights that American labour has claimed from the state in the past decades.

Right now, America doesn't need its population for economic growth and power, like it did in 50s and 60s, and it can afford to have most of its population shut out from main economic and political drivers.

This, in turn, creates pressure on the State to withdraw political rights population enjoys.

In the short term, the State will try to conceal this reality, and the reversal of rights, but in the long term, it becomes clear it's an economy that doesn't involve a lot of Americans, and doesn't benefit Americans.

Britain was a very successful global power in the 18th century, the US can also be a successful superpower despite the above.

I've been saying this for months now:

The open source contribution slopathon predates AI, I remember when projects would block new contributors during Hacktoberfest to protect themselves from the onslaught of "Updated README.md"

Mozilla shows that this doesn't have to be the case.

> AI-assisted bug reports have a mixed track record, and skepticism is earned. Too many submissions have meant false positives and an extra burden for open source projects. What we received from the Frontier Red Team at Anthropic was different.

Having a skilled team use LLMs with good intention has positive impact on open source, I hope people will allow themselves to recognise this, so we can bury the "no AI no matter what" convo and move to more productive ones

I'm blown away by the Qwen 3.5 family of models, there's a size for everything:

- quick clustering task - 0.8B param got you
- web search, quick tool calling - 2B & 4B for you
- deep-dives, research, etc. - 397B MoE with 17B active params

The future is open weight.
