"Moonforge: making Yocto easy to assemble", by @ebassi at @allsystemsgo

25 years of @igalia today !

At #guadec2026 in A Coruña. This is Federico Mena talking about evolution-data-server.

What a time to be alive:

"For gaming, Microsoft views steamOS as the benchmark, and is working to optimize the platform so that steamOS and Windows gaming performance are comparable."

So they're trying to make Windows beat Linux at running... Windows games.

The tricky part is when dst does not have a trailing slash, because then the behavior depends on whether

- dst already exists or not
- src is a file or a directory
- if src is a directory, whether it's empty or not

I've been doing this all my life and still today I have to double check the differences among these commands, because they're all different:

$ rsync -a src dst
$ rsync -a src dst/
$ rsync -a src/ dst
$ rsync -a src/ dst/

The current state of the Linux desktop is that one random youtuber talking about the new Steam Machine for the general public said that "this runs Linux, but it's a PC so you can install Windows if you want, although you have to be careful because YOU COULD HAVE PROBLEMS WITH DRIVERS" 😅

Here is @ebassi talking about "Yocto's hidden gem: OTA and seamless updates with systemd-sysupdate" at #allsystemsgo2025 #allsystemsgo

Very nice day at #allsystemsgo with lots of interesting talks, and a few old friends that I hadn't seen in a long time 😊

My talk is tomorrow, but I see that the previous one at OSS EU has just been featured in @lwn https://lwn.net/Articles/1038859/

O próximo día 29 de Maio na Coruña tendes a oportunidade de coñecer en persoa varios membros do TC39, o comité que define a linguaxe de programación Javascript

Note that this position requires proximity to our headquarters in Galicia, Spain.

Last weekend I had the pleasure to meet Alex Gonzalez, who wrote what is believed to be the first commercial computer game ever developed in Galicia, in 1986 for the MSX computer.

The game had little impact and 1986 was already relatively late, but as far as I'm aware there wasn't really much else until well into the 90s, so it has historical significance.

But it's also a hint of the kind of industry that we had here. This is the land where we had to sow our seeds.

" It should be noted that using find with −print0 to pipe input to xargs −r0 is less safe than using find with −exec because if find −print0 is terminated after it has written a partial pathname, the partial pathname may be processed as if it was a complete pathname. "

Please please please can we name this incident "CrowdStrike: Global Offensive" ?

I think it's great to know the personal stories of the people who are behind the software that we all use, I enjoyed reading this article about Philip Hazel (developer of Exim) on LWN: https://lwn.net/Articles/978463/
