The biggest problem with strategy is, that it locks people into working against an idealized future state with uncertain benefits instead of working with the evolutionary potential of the here and now.

Dr. Wheeler (2000[1993]) again with two gems:

"Setting goals does nothing to change the system."

"Setting goals on meeting goals is an act of desperation."

The goal of delivering what was committed to in an iteration in 90% of the time surely is an example of the latter and sometimes also of the former.

#scrum #SAFe #agile

Ach wäre das schön, wenn im neuen Jahr ein Zielsetzungsframework nicht mehr als "Managementmethode für zielgerichtete, moderne und flexible Mitarbeiterführung" bezeichnet werden würde.

#OKR #agile #orgdevelopment

OMG!

"Scaled Agile is considering expanding the treatment of AI within the #SAFe framework".

Now they start to assimilate weird stuff into that so-called #Agile Scaling Framework.

What does #AI have to do with scaling Agile? Do they wanna make PO/PM feed a Chatbot to get User Stories and Features more efficiently?

In other cases they also don't really care for Technologies.

Again this seems like utilizing another hype topic to promote that crap.

In case someone is interested in getting to know what I mean with 'not just those':

The underlying myth or belief is that one needs a rather concrete, prescribed, envisioned, beneficial future state to accomplish anything - no matter if its called goal, objective or strategy.

That myth is even more ubiquitous than Scrum adoption in some industries.

Actually, a sense of direction is sufficient and prevents inattentional blindness to new opportunities - a side-effect of focus.

"There's a commonly held myth that a lack of a time-bound delivery commitment, such as a sprint demonstration, will lead to a lack of focus, laziness, and increasingly long delivery times. There is, in fact, no such evidence from more than a decade of #Kanban usage. The fear is one generated by those who sell #Scrum training and coaching for a living and wish to dissuade adoption of Kanban or customers from switching." (David J. Anderson, 2023 in 'Discovering Kanban', p. 108)

Not just those...

"(...) sophisticated problem solvers facing extremely complicated situations must communicate informally if they are to accomplish their work." (H. Mintzberg, 1979)

Two decades before #Agile this was known in Management-Science. But seemingly ignored in business schools and some #SAFe Framework.
