On this day in 1973, the Chilean army, backed by the CIA, overthrew the democratic government of Salvador Allende.

They installed a dictatorship that lasted until 1988. Thousands were killed and disappeared.

Keep this is mind when you hear USians talk about freedom and democracy.

In an incredible move, Saddle Lake Cree Nation in Alberta, Canada has announced a gender-affirming care clinic for trans youth, asserting tribal sovereignty and defying the region's ban.

It is one of the biggest cross-movement solidarity moments in Canada.

In the Kurt Vonnegut novel ‘Slapstick’, a failing US Gov’t eeks out a policy in its last days that everyone is to be assigned a middle name and a number.

All the middle names are based on words from the natural world. So you may be a Peanut-11 or a Squirrel-7 or Aluminium-4

Clubs pop up, people start connecting. Some folks are snooty with fancy names, some have humble names that fit them perfectly.

The idea is to give everyone a family. If you’re on hard times, you find some kin of your folk where you happen to be.

It is one of his most humane books but buried in one of his lesser read books.

as long as we value quantity more than quality, output more than outcome, speed more than depth, clout more than reach, and status more than impact, AI would have us grabbed by the throat.

you can talk about morals, but the only mark of ethics is action.

if you miss “the internet of yore” as it was a “better one”, there are mighty great odds you’re white, anglophone, american, and old enough to start yelling at clouds any moment. most probably all of them.

better if they realise that 1) the internet is better for millions across the globe, and that 2) they were the ones that ruined theirs, and moderately spoilt everyone else’s.
