Most organisations want accessible websites, but their colour palettes weren't built with accessibility in mind.

Plenty of contrast checkers flag the problems, but we couldn't find one that also helps you fix them.

So we made one ourselves. Introducing ✨This hue shall pass✨ https://thishueshallpass.clearleft.com/?utm_source=CL_HSP%20Mastodon&utm_medium=CL_MD&utm_campaign=CL_HSP

We're pretty darn proud of this one, go give it a go and share it around your teams. It's in beta so tell us what you'd change in the comments, along with a little commotion for the name pun 👌

It took a little while, but my petition has finally been published on the UK Parliament petitions website! 🎉

Make all UK Government websites free to access without mobile data charges

For people experiencing data poverty, accessing essential government services can come with a very real cost.

Whether someone is claiming benefits, accessing health services, looking for work, finding safety advice, or simply trying to understand their rights. I don’t believe they should have to pay for mobile data to access public services they have already helped fund through taxation.

The petition calls for UK Government websites and online services to be zero-rated, meaning they would not use a person’s mobile data allowance or require them to have paid data available.

If you agree that public services should be free at the point of access, please consider signing and sharing the petition. Every signature helps! 🙏

BTW, hat tip to @adactio.com for pointing me to many of the articles I’ve been sharing. His RSS feed of links has always been great source, and it was one of the things I tried to catch up on this weekend while I was sick. https://adactio.com/links http://adactio.com

This week we played back our work with the team at the University of Manchester to mark the end of a design system foundations phase. Building on our earlier discovery phase, this project laid the groundwork: a recommended governance model and technical strategy, a prioritised list of components to build first, and guidance to get teams started – all built to flex as things evolve.

We talk more about how we approach design systems in Episode 1 of the Clearleft Podcast👉 https://podcast.clearleft.com/season01/episode01/

”There’s another, uglier explanation for the CSS disrespect: It’s considered a 'feminine' language. There’s the obvious undertone that dealing with style and beauty is Female Work, along with the recycled joke that a CSS developer is 'a freak in the style sheets.'”
