ACARS Drama started as a single feed/single computer project a few years back, it has since grown to include over 460 feeds from 45 countries, running on quite the array of hardware. This is a hobby project, and it's growth was very accidental.

We sift through those thousands of messages, and using our proprietary Drama Engine, find the most interesting, "human written" ones.

Even though these messages are transmitted in the clear, they can contain personal info, so we run every message through a redactor.

The redactor helps us make sure we don't make someones bad day worse, you'll see XXXXX's in a lot of places - that's the redactor doing its thing. They are not kisses. Well, sometimes they are, but most of the time they are not.

We love aviation, flying, and the people that make it happen so to help protect them, we have a slight delay on our messages, and we strip back any identifying info on our public posts, like tail/flight number.

The A and F values on each post are unique but de-identified hashes that allow you to search across messages from the same flight/aircraft.

Type: shows you the type of aircraft the message originated from. 2/3

Howdy folks, thanks for following ACARS Drama! Every once in a while we like to do a quick tour, so new folks know what this thing is all about. That tour will begin, thus:

ACARS is a radio service used by aircraft to pass messages to airline operations rooms on the ground, and vice versa.

ACARS has been around since the 1970's, it is broadcast completely "in the clear", which means anyone in the vicinity can receive those messages using low cost radio hardware and free open source software.

We call the folks who do this and pass the data to us 'sky drama farmers'.

Anyone can become a sky drama farmer if you have the right equipment, which all costs around $30. Our recommendations are on our website, https://acarsdrama.com.

Thanks to sky drama farmers around the world, we receive close to 300k messages an hour. Most of them are automated things or telemetry. 1/3
