This is not a "Steve Jobs was a genius" thing, he was a prick. Nor is it nostalgia thinking past Apple was perfect. They've always had a level of form over function and their alleged values are largely performative. But their current state is what you get when you put the technocrat optimisation executive in charge. The iPhones got more iPhone, but they're not going to be capable of the next big thing.

That said maybe we need fewer new big things and more fixing the rampant issues with the current things. Many of which are social problems tech companies only know how to make worse. We should as a society poke big tech with pointy sticks more.
