Damn. I am trying to learn a new musical instrument, a small thing called a pocket sax, and my damn dog is not being helpful. She expresses editorial opinions, and not favorable ones, about the sound emanating from me and the instrument <lolsob> If you read of a dog savaging her owner and running away into the wilderness, that’ll be us
The Dog Thing is pouting. She got her dinner at her usual hour, including yummy rice & sauce on the kibbles. But our dinner took long enough to prepare that that First Dinner has faded from her memory, and the Ogre refuses, absolutely refuses, to see how pitifully starving she is and give her Second Dinner. She’s tried everything: intense eyebeams, heavy sighs, ostentatious slurping of water: nothing works. Oh, the dogmanity! Weep for her!
Such a drama queen 🤦🏻♂️
A piece on the Declaration of Independence, July 4 1776 and July 4 2025, by that almost-marxist pinko, Judge Michael Luttig. It’s worth reading… the parallels between those dates are quite striking.

#NoKings Survived the urban hellscape of the SFBA east bay — helicopter gunships, killer drones, wave after wave of cyborg soldiers coming at us, unstoppable 😱😝
Yeahno. It was quite a large crowd in Fremont where I went, but the energy was almost 100% positive. In addition to the large number of people marching, holding signs, etc, there were huge numbers of people driving by and honking. The two major dangers out there were sunburn and dehydration. I took a number of pictures and video

Today’s experiment in #SolarCooking: Linzer torte — actually, poundcake. Making it as a poundcake is about 90% of the flavor for 20% or less of the work, and I’m lazy 😎 Recipe is pretty much out of Joy of Cooking, with a couple of tweaks: I put in about 2/3 the sugar or less, and I add a bit of cayenne pepper.
Wet ingredients:
2.25 sticks of unsalted butter aka 9 oz
3 eggs
0.75 to 1.5 cups sugar, I use about 1
1 tsp vanilla
mix them all together thoroughly in a stand mixer
1/2
Dry ingredients:
scant 2 cups white flour
1.5 cups almond flour
2 tbsp cocoa
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground clove
1/2 tsp cayenne
mix them all thoroughly, dump them into the wet ingredients, & beat
the whole thing into submission.
grease a 9 inch square baking pan, dump the dough in & spread it
reasonably uniformly, then bake at 325 degrees for about 70 minutes.
In the solar oven, I don’t know yet how long, guessing 2 hours.
No pix yet, it just started baking.
2/2 (with pix later)
Next experiment in #solarcooking is brownies. 2/3 scale recipe, because I wasn’t sure if it would all fit into the oven, and it baked for about 1.5 hours instead of 30 minutes; other than that, no changes to the recipe. They have to cool a bit, but they look and smell pretty good 😋
