”There’s another, uglier explanation for the CSS disrespect: It’s considered a 'feminine' language. There’s the obvious undertone that dealing with style and beauty is Female Work, along with the recycled joke that a CSS developer is 'a freak in the style sheets.'”
"I’m not the only one. Personal sites are coming back. RSS feeds are coming back. Webrings are coming back. People are remembering that a website can be a home or a place instead of a profile."

Yessss @tg - this echoes what I've been thinking lately, but put in much more depth and eloquence than I could have managed.
So it looks like there's a concerted effort to register fake parties to try to redirect preferences to One Nation in the upcoming Victorian elections.
They're taking advantage of Victoria's Group Voting Ticket to do this.
@tezoatlipoca @mhoye I'd be happy if they weren't even badass, but you know, ran this stuff like they're not trying to emulate comic book bad guys, like the current oligarchical tech leaders seem to be.
OK, so it seems that Pixelfed now also includes text lost, owing to some pressure from the rest of the Fediverse, but it looks like the UX in the Pixelfed client for handle those text posts is a bit terrible (they show up in the UI, but basically can't be read or hidden, effectively making my feed much harder to browse).
Anyone have any good workarounds / solutions or know what the long term plan is here? Presumably there's something on the roadmap to make this work better.
I've donated to them here (I've certainly gotten enough use out of Python over the years to more than justify that), and I'd encourage others to do the same if they're able.

Kudos to the Python Software Foundation for standing for their values. It may hurt in the short run but of was the right call. https://pyfound.blogspot.com/2025/10/NSF-funding-statement.html
"I don’t write these posts for VC-funded LLMs to come along and gobble up and produce some shitty facsimile, or summarise what I’m saying with none of the nuance or context on someone else’s website."
Same.
You may have seen news lately about Steam and Itch.io having their arms twisted by their payment provides, or you may remember longer ago when Tumblr was similarly forced to change their rules.
I that bothers you, and you're an Australian Resident, you may like to know about this petition: https://www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/petition/EN7799
@Daojoan it's still there, I'm convinced we've just collectively forgotten how to surf the web
A while ago I was talking to a researcher and he was like “a few years ago through field research I found out that __ and wrote about it, it was such an exciting find” and then added “and it’s amazing how smart ChatGPT is, recently I asked it the same thing, and it came to the same conclusion as I did in my research!”
My man, ChatGPT didn’t come to the same conclusion you did and it isn’t smart. It stole words from your article and didn’t give you credit.
That’s not amazing, that’s plagiarism.
@stephanie @ErikUden It very much feels like the Torment Nexus meme: they are cheerfully inventing the future that dystopic science fiction tried to warn us against, and don't even understand why people might consider that a bad thing.
OpenAI now claims that Deepseek used its model to train their competitor. Huge if true
Turns out there's still an active hobby / mini-painting / tabletop wargames scene out there in the blogging world. Many of them have just been plugging away for over a decade.
Since search these days is so enshittified, and nearly useless for finding anything that doesn't have an ad budget behind it, I've decided to start trying to pull together a list - which I've shared here.
If you need some D&D / TTRPG blogs to add to your RSS reader, @slyflourish maintains an excellent blogroll here - https://dndblogs.com/rpg_blogroll.html
Lots of topics, so regardless of your TTRPG of choice there should be something here for you.
I had to go to Kansas for my best friend’s tiny wedding and I went to these two houses directly across the street from Topeka’s Westboro Baptist church
hats off and deep respect to these queers for holding space across from those fuckers
I've started a blog recently and I'm thinking it's probably worth having a page that explains what RSS is to help people get started.
Ideally I'd like to link to good resources where I can - are there any good pages out there that would be ideal for helping someone select their first RSS reader? Should ideally include free/FOSS options since I don't want to only point them to subscription services.
She's my new hero.
Just realised that on Mastodon, boosting *is* the algorithm.
There's no code trying to cleverly show me stuff it reckons I'd be into, based on what my contacts are into, instead my contacts are saying "I like this, I bet my contacts would like it too" and that is way smarter than any algorithm.
Thank you, boosters!
@Catvalente is on fire yet again, and 100% correct.

The rest of the world is out here hoping you don't screw this up. All of us across the globe will be less safe if Trump truly ascends to power.
