If I'm understanding correctly, AI might kill us all, but we have to keep developing it, because if we don't, China's AI will kill us all first. Do I have that right?

If you're interested in #workercoops, #unions, or especially union worker co-ops, the upcoming GEO Journal takes a detailed look at them. I can add you to the list to get one by snail mail!

I have a question for... anyone who knows what they're talking about. My co-op has been approached to do work for a company that does "medical lien financing." I can't shake the feeling this is morally gray at best. Turns out the company in question has gotten funding from four different VC firms, which only makes me more suspicious. Also, they're pressuring me to sign the contract really quickly.

We get to witness both the space race and the Cuban Missile Crisis. So this is what life in the '60s was like.

#ScribesAndMakers Self-promotion Day. Shame optional.

I'm part of GEO (@geosocialcoop) which stands for Grassroots Economic Organizing. We're a bunch of organizers and writers focused on promoting #workercoops specifically, and the #solidarityeconomy generally.

I've only gotten around to contributing one article so far, but there are lots from @GuerillaOntologist and @Matt_Noyes, among many others.

Using AI at work is like giving your tasks to an intern. No matter how articulate and eager to please they are, they do not have experience. They have not solved real-world problems, and they have not developed good judgment. Every statement should be treated as a guess. It might be a good guess, but it's still a guess.

a few months ago i had the immense privilege to speak about Websites at @webdevconf in Bristol — i've taken some time to improve on these ideas and build a permanent online home for the essay, which i intend to grow and improve over time 🤍

My hypothesis is that church officials tried to make changes at the local level, but these changes were not coordinated or standardized, so they never caught on.

It's common knowledge that the English names for the days of the week are pagan in origin: Woden's day, Thor's day, Freya's day, Saturn's day. My question is, how did they survive the piety of the Middle Ages?

@peter You're in Barcelona, correct? What's a good radio station there? I need to train my ear, plus also keep up on the news.

I've been poking around on radio.garden, but I can't get a good sense of what's good and what's not. It's either music in English or chatter about soccer.

I have looked into the matter and determined that, contrary to prior reports, Bob is not my uncle.

There should be a name for those annoying tasks where you spend more time setting up and cleaning up than on doing the task itself.

Has anyone built a solar oven specifically for use in winter? I have some ideas, and I'd like to know if anyone else has already tried something similar.

If the government is shut down, is ICE furloughed?

Not sure why I've been spending so much time trying to figure out how to #degoogle when @mayfirst was right there the whole time.

My BIOS will not recognize my new SSD, no matter what settings I change.

MSI B550 motherboard, Samsung 990 NVM SSD.

Has anyone seen this before? Lots of people have asked the same question on Reddit and various other fora, and there's no conclusive answer.

My sign from today. #handsoff

@Remittancegirl @GottaLaff It's important that we keep detailed documentation of these days. Not for purposes of retribution as such, but definitely accountability and making deniability implausible.
