I'm supposed to be investing for something called retirement (though I think even that is a silly, unachievable dream) yet I'm doing it so half heartedly because, well, I feel so jaded and cynical about what any investment (even in so-called green investments) is really perpetuating. Companies invest in other companies so even if I buy stocks in companies that I believe in, what companies are *they* investing in, and so on.

So, friends, what's your solution to investing for the future while not investing in shitty things like LNG tankers and unbearable labour standards and the list goes on? Help me out here.

The Canadian federal government is on board with this plan to build AI data centres, too. But only if they're powered by natural gas fired power plants. Why?

An internal Privy Council doc reveals that "one of the top “public policy benefits to Canada” of constructing a national network of data centres is creating new markets for Canadian natural gas producers."

Yeah. So Carney could have made data centre development contingent on powering them with renewable energy but that would fail to "create new markets for Canadian natural gas producers." So that would totally defeat the entire point of building these data centres.

Do not be fooled by the red Liberal branding. This government is short sighted and driven by economic gains over the suffering and loss that comes with continuing up burn huge amounts of fossil fuels.

So. Here's more you can do:
1. Contact your MP and tell them why you're concerned and ask them for an immediate moratorium on building these behemoths that are the antithesis to human thriving

The curtain must be pulled back.

Alberta courts American companies to build these enormous AI data centres. Why? To bring natural gas markets closer to the product to sell more and drive up prices.

At the same time, the POTUS is threatening to send Canada a bill because we have raging wildfires. They don't like the smoke that's crossing the border so the POTUS wants us to do something about it. I can't wait to hear about the wall that he demands we must pay for.

Jokes aside, American corporations want us to burn more fossil fuels.

The solution to ending wildfires and all that smoke that rudely crosses the border is to STOP BURNING FOSSIL FUELS.

So, Mr President, tell your pals who are desperate to burn more fossil fuels to get out of Alberta.

This is absolutely ridiculous, mind numbing denial.

Friends, I do aim to agitate you, to provoke your ire. Now, channel that rage into action.

1. If you're in Alberta, call the Environment Minister and demand a moratorium on building these massive AI data centres
2. If that feels too big and scary, then write a letter with your own hand and mail it to him

The rapid growth of AI data centres is bad for lots of reasons.

Both the Canadian federal and Alberta provincial government are pushing for them to drive up domestic demand for natural gas so the price will go up.

This way we can suck up the last dredges and maybe recoup enough from doing so to convert reclamation costs.

Climate crisis and clean air be damned. Cost of living be damned.
