the only case in which you shouldn't make your own things is if it'd be useless unless everyone else also uses it, because the only reason it may succeed is if a large group picks it up, and they generally won't

if your thing would be useful even if only you used it though, well, who cares ? it's useful, even if nobody else uses it, it'd still be a success

don't scare yourself into not making things just because some assholes make fun of you for "reinventing the wheel", when you're actually making the right wheel for yourself

a circular queue is the same thing as a circular buffer, just for arbitrary data rather than specifically bytes

went from "oh okay so an object's identifier is just it's hash, that's pretty neat and simple" to "since hash functions will eventually get broken, be it by mistakes in the algorithm being found, or just more compute, we should treat them as a purely temporary thing, and shouldn't be relied upon for long term information tracking"
