It's the biggest single day rout in the history of the NASDAQ, and continuing with futures - Dems win bigly and the markets go FUUUUUUCK
A reminder, stock markets are not the economy, they are banks for billionaires, tech bros and climate denying oil and gas shitheads
I do like the idea of Canada being included in Eurovision, but....
1: Not while Israel is also participating
2: It has to be Angine de Poutrine, Full Stop
Thank you everyone from all over the Mastodon universe and actual world for engaging with this post - still going strong. It clearly shows the sense of relief that the US finally came to its senses, and the vital institutions held. As a Canadian my message to all is things can change, not all is lost even in the darkest moments.
And to the US Dems - be brave, be strong, and don't shy away from holding all of them to account.
Today we all celebrate
In the most hilarious irony, Iran caused regime change in the US
to all our US friends - well done, well done indeed. You stepped up and exceeded expectations. Up and down the tickets - winning House and Senate (enough there to tell Fetterman to fuck off). Winning state houses and governors - winning FUCKING TEXAS and KANSAS!!
But we still aren't buying US booze until you boot the orange idiot - Thankyou for voting, all of Canada
really interesting that in Nanaimo, while muni election signs are everywhere, so few provincial signs, and absolutely no private property lawn signs that I could see.
You would think NDP incumbents would have signs from the previous election available - no takers?
Also, no flyers, no mailers, no ads
RE: https://mastodon.social/@aicaution/117397626878621143
and do it for data centers, tax all the tech bros - make it an issue and watch NDP and Cons flail
4 ridings have only one candidate
North Coast-Haida Gwai - BCNDP
Peace River South - BCCP
Peace River-North Cariboo - BCCP
Burnaby-New Westminster - BCNDP
93 seats up for grabs - here's what Elections BC has so far confirmed for candidates - no party is running a full slate
NDP: 89
CPBC: 87
GRN: 52
CTR: 21
1BC: 20
4 ridings have only one candidate
Huge news - and a nightmare for the NDP. Greens have Carolyn Howe, President of the Victoria Teacher's Federation as the candidate for Victoria Swan Lake - means a decades long surety with union execs automatically supporting NDP is over - this will bring money, more candidates, volunteer support and votes
Well done Eby, you broke your own party
Another NDP MLA bites the dust
Amelia Boultbee, Penticton-Summerland MLA elected as a Conservative, then flipped to the NDP this year, has announced she won't be seeking re-election
BC Conservative interim leader Lorne Doerkson spotted with ex- BC Liberal Premier Christy Clark at the BC Lions game
That's as public as you can get without an official announcement that she will run
So that's 2 former leaders, Andrew Weaver and CC falling back into politics, albeit with different parties
Eby having a bad day. Awful presser this morning mixing up names and getting facts wrong.
Angus Reid poll was a stunner. 2/3 don't want an election, many are really angry at the interference with municipal races. Since the last poll 10 days ago NDP have dropped 12 points giving up a 4pt lead, now trailing the BC Cons by 8 pts.
Andrew Weaver running for CentreBC in Oak Bay- Gordon Head is illustrating how ridiculous this election is becoming
Shocking move - Ravi Kahlon is not running in the BC election
Joining Kelly Greene and Lana Popham
NDP has internal problems
As Eby is about to announce a snap election, things are moving fast. BC Cons and CentreBC are in frantic talks about merging, with Brent Chapman, husband to Kerry Lynne Findlay just announcing he is leaving the cons and joining Dallas Brodie's OneBC
And Milobar, leader of CentreBC is insisting other more extreme cons be de-listed, not allowed to run under their merged banner
Also appears Poilievre's former comms director Katy Merrifield is joining the BC Cons campaign team
Really looks like Eby will call a snap election early next week, likely by Wednesday, which is the cutoff date for cancelling the Abbottsford byelection - which means E-day is Oct. 24th
And this totally screws municipal elections - all the attention will go to provincial campaigns, and the money, and staff
