Oof maybe that hot sauce that expired 2 years ago was a bad idea

I... don't really like saxophone. 😬 Which, of course, makes being a tremendous fan of jazz very challenging. Particularly today, John Coltrane's 100th birthday where all the jazz everywhere is SAX-A-MA-PHOOOONE.

I have to install Python and PyCharm on my computer for a class. I've been using my work computer so far for class work but I don't have install privileges. So I'm attempting to install it on my personal Linux system and it's a fucking joke. The instructions on the Python site are gibberish so I looked it up and found a forum post directly on point where all the responses are DO NOT INSTALL PYTHON YOU WILL WRECK YOUR COMPUTER! Instead do this other thing: <gibberish>

Seriously, every Linux guide is like "Just download the saltbox into the infirmary. Then unpack it with your box-sorter. DO NOT use Box Sorter Q or you will wreck your system!! Unless you're on a Testes-type fork, then you HAVE to use Box Sorter Q or you WILL WRECK YOUR SYSTEM. After unpacking, you'll need to run the stump command. And that should do it! Easy as pie!"

Gods, why is it so fucking hard to install software in Linux?!?

(Don't @ me Linux nerds, I don't have the patience.)

Hey Fedi: Favorite protective eyewear for a workshop? Ones that fit over glasses and/or can be fitted with prescription lenses, please. :)

lol, I've had my home office set up in front of this Westward-facing window for 5+ years now. It only just now occurred to me to hang up a towel over the flimsy curtain to block the late-afternoon/early-evening sun from my eyes.

Got DAMN. If you haven't seen Tuner (2025) you reeeeaaaallly should. It's not a perfect film, but it's a fucking good one.

In a series of rather unfortunate events, I managed to get superglue on the tip of my tongue where it dried IMMEDIATELY. Sigh.

Edit. IT'S ALSO ON MY TEETH. SEND HELP. lolsigh

You have ~10lbs of asian pears. What do you make?

Last year I made pear butter and chutney. I'm disinclined to make pear butter again tbqh

Okay, Fedi: Am I overreacting?

Coworker keeps consistently misspelling my name in emails. I have an usual name so I expect this occasionally, particularly with new coworkers. But we've now been working together for a year and I've gently corrected her twice in the last couple of weeks. My name literally shows in the TO: field immediately above where she's mistyping my name.

At this point it feels deliberate and it's gone from mildly annoying to angering.

Question for #bikenitepq : Are there any current or former professional bike mechanics on the Fediverse that would be interested/willing to share insights about the profession? What was your professional journey like? Any warnings/advice for someone considering a career change into the profession? Would getting a certification from an organization like the United Bicycle Institute be worthwhile?

My extremely estranged father called me last night. Haven't spoken to him in nearly 20yrs.*

Me, hesitantly answering a call from a number I don't recognize 🧑‍🦲: This is Karstan
Dad 👨‍🦳: <pause> Hello?
🧑‍🦲, ready to hang up on the apparent autodialer: Hello?
👨‍🦳: Well, it sounds like you.
Me, realizing who it is: Oh god. No thank you. <click>

* He is an extremely shitty person, who by all accounts (from my siblings that maintain minimal contact with him) has only gotten worse over the years

Welp, I suppose this couldn't hurt? Nerdy, handyman/fixit type with a fondness for things that start with the letter B. Bikes, boats (sail), Beethoven, butts, and so forth.

Hey Fedi Hive Mind: My older sister is currently driving across the US from East to West. She'll hit route 80 tomorrow and is looking for silly/fun touristy type stuff to do on the way. Nothing that requires significant side trips or time commitments. Roadside attraction type stuff. For example: today she went to the Moth Man museum in West Virginia and enjoyed it.

Any ideas?

Here's hoping there's more than a couple of interesting bikes this year! 🤞 I've checked the photos the last few years and it's mostly just 99 iterations of the essentially the same design (gravel/touring) with different paint jobs and maybe 2 or 3 actually interesting bikes.

Hey #pdx. If you're thinking of going to the https://made.bike show this weekend, use MADEBump (case sensitive) at checkout for $10 off (they meant to make it 10% off, but someone entered it wrong). There's probably a limited number of tickets that can be bought with this so use it quick!

It's kind of complicated to use it. You've got to add it to your cart and then VIEW the cart, to apply the code. If you got straight to checkout it won't offer you an opportunity to apply it.

I'm excited because I'm usually really awful at planning ahead for things so every time these events have happened I've found out after the fact. I'm actually ahead of the game here, so this is rad.

Hmmm... the official Carry Shit Olympics is next month here in Portland. https://linktr.ee/csopdx . Should I a) convert my XtraCycle Edgerunner back to acoustic? b) Leave it alone and compete in the ebike category (not favored) c) build out something really exciting and weird with one of the Xtracycle MegaRack kits (prototype that was never produced, see photos below) that I've hoarded or d) Compete in the regular bike category?
